I did this last winter
I am typing with gloves on. I live on the 3rd floor of a 100 year old bldg in D/T Denver. I share the heat with 2 other apts. It is either so hot I have to leave the windows open from heat blasting or shut off the heat and wear 3 layers of clothing including gloves. It's 15 degress outside now!

1. That sucks!
I couldn't tolerate those conditions myself--I don't know how you do. You obviously have great fortitude!

2. The house I bought in old Stapleton....
is 90 years old. I just got it this summer...so this is my first winter in it.

Dude...all the windows are shut...and there is a friggin' breeze!

And this is the coldest night so far this fall in Denver.

3. Yep!
no window closes all the way. It has a little crack enough to get a draft. I hate heat and my apt is only 550 sq ft, so the heat is magnified. I would rather freeze than use the heat. My 2 other neighbors and I argue over this every year.

6. I have a 1 bedroom apt
in Cap Hill with a view of D/T for $365/month. I think tolerance is in order. Anything comparable would be $300 more /month

5. Sounds like college.
I was lucky. I could actually control the radiator in my room, unlike most of the other dorms at U Maryland. Since my dorm was an older girl's dorm before going co-ed, I also had a sink in my room.

8. I can do that here in my on-campus apartment.
It's a lot better than the dorms...they can't even control their temps, so the temp is always around 85 degrees inside all winter long. Many people leave their windows open, which is sad, and a waste of energy.

7. Lived in the top floor of an add on
in an apartment building. The heat inside could not go beyond 17c/62F. Now, we had a couple of cold winters in that building...how's -35C/-31F...and no freakin heat!

Whatever heat there was, wasn't enough. We had to have the oven on and that door open ALL the time when we were home, as well as carried an electric fan heater from room to room. It was an average sized 2 bdrm, but you could literally see frost coming out of your mouth if you didn't heat it as I described.

Lots of fleece, including socks, to bed. Showers were VERY fun in the morning...:scared:

The windows were iced up all winter long...then the opposite problem in summer, where it was at least 5C above what the temp was outside...

Couldn't move out of that place fast enough!

9. EEK.. I had my A/C on this afternoon
What about one of those small fan heaters? You could use it only when you are typing atleast.. I would not want to sleep with one on, because I'm not sure of their safety, but....
