16 Tons of Support Our Troops Ribbons Shipped to Iraq for Veteran's Day
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 03:59 PM by bsartist
PELLA, IA– Mother of two Sarah Ingram went out of her way to mark Veteran's Day this past weekend, personally organizing and shipping 16 tons of 'Support Our Troops' ribbons to our brave fighting men and women in Iraq.

“I felt compelled to do something special for our troops," said Ingram, unpacking groceries from the family van. "I mean, these people are risking their lives for our freedom, the least we can do is show them how much we care.”

This plan of action came to her...http://www.bsnews.org/articles/086

3. Got to love this Rant by the troops

Iowa National Guardsman Ronald Delaney, stationed in Tikrit, Iraq, was appreciative but ambivalent in an email correspondence with BSNews.

“They’re sending us 16 tons of yellow ribbons?” said Delaney. “That’s great. That’s the dumbest damn idea I ever heard. What good’s that gonna do? Then again, what good do they do in the first place. I guess now we can at least vent by shootin’ at’em. Hopefully I’ll be back home before they get here.”

Ummm.....
Why would the troops need or want to wear these ribbons?

Isn't that our job?

7. exactly
the point. those ribbons are pointless. they are just a way for the average American to not feel guilty about how little they actually care. and for companies to profit. the people who fly those ribbons but don't think the troops should come home right now!

10. exactly!
in case you didn't see, this is a fake news story, which is trying to slam those ribbons and the hypocritic people who fly them. pretty much all the people who live in my town of Pella, Iowa.

11. Way to do absolutely nothing but make yourself feel bette!

I'm sure the troops will just LOVE those magnets. They can stick them over the bulletholes in their Hummers - maybe they'll provide more protection for them than our government is.

:eyes: What a dumb fucking thing to do.

i know, i thought at least the point would be obvious, but you know, I had MY OWN WEBMASTER ask me if this was a real story! next time I'll try to err on the side of funny instead of insight.

13. Good thought. Stick them to the sides of the HVs for protection
What a wonderful thing. Then, when victory is declared, again, they can be put together into quonset huts for housing!

18. Jeebus. The quonset hut would be a disaster.
The magnets would all stick to the veterans' prosthetic limbs, metal plates, and walkers.

14. The troops are not going to
give a damn about receiving a little yellow ribbon. It is a nice gesture, but so totally useless.

19. exactly
if you had taken half a look at the article, or the post, you'd know this was satire. and no, it's not a nice gesture. if it had happened, it would be slap in the face to our troops, which is what those ribbons are in the first place.

guilty about supporting an unjust war?

Just slap a yellow magnet on your car and that'll make it go away!

I have the utmost respect for our veterans. that is why I wrote this article, which targets the people who say they support the troops but don't think they should come home.

yay! exactly right. I thought that worked nicely, as the whole reaction I was looking for was: but that's pointless! whadya get? kinda how I feel bout those ribbons.

maybe anything that reminds people of whats going on is good. or perhaps they just desensitize people and alleviate their guilt over being so ripe with contradiction.
