My letter to Dr. Phil

I wrote this yesterday afternoon while catching his show on the W. coast feed, but I wasn't going to send it until I read Taverner's post on Dr. Phil today.

I guess this makes me a real "men's activist" now - whatever that means. It's not like I haven't been accused of being one (and worse) in the past!

Dear Dr Phil,

Regarding the episode which aired Mon 11/14/05 - The First Wives Club.

As a Jeopody watcher, I missed the first half of your show.

I was appalled by this phsyco-drama morality play you called The First Wives Club.

With techniques classic of cult leaders, you exploited these women, broke them and paraded them on TV in a shameful manner.

You brought the men on who claimed to speak for ALL men but obviosly were not the "best" of all men to further societal conventions, religon, and your ratings - but your telivalgenist persona is missing one simple fact of life.

SOME HUMANS are/can be MONOGOMOUS. OTHERS ARE NOT MONOGOMOUS. It is human nature. That goes for men and women, with men (in general) being more disposed to non-monogomous.

But it's much better for you to use your show to deride anger at all men, and work your guests, your audience and I'm sure your viewers at home into a bubling vat of misandronist froth. Up next - men are pigs!

On behalf of of all non-pig men, let me just send you a big FUCK YOU! You're perpetuating stereo-types and creating hostility against men for entertainment.

Thanks for upholding the status quo and ingraining human behavior into religious convention instead of secular science and human nature.

whether men are more predisposed to non-monagamy depends on which study you read. I've seen some research that shows just as many women cheat on their spouses as men.

And I think it's misandrist...I don't think misandronist is a word.

And I actually think that just as many women cheat as men, but society is so conditioned to think that only men cheat, I felt I had to put that in there.
