and even then, only when absolutely necessary. I prefer to let it air-dry.

But if that's not the problem in this case, remember: you have to keep the blowdryer moving while you use it. Blowdryers can get hotter than you'd think, and if you hold one too close to your hair for too long, then you can cause the water in the hair to boil and rupture the individual hairshafts. The tell-tale sign of this kind of damage is bunches of little white dots on the strands on hair. Such hair is weakened, and will break easily at those little dots.
