Back to detox yesterday
Fifth trip to take my sister there since August.

I'm bummed out. I thought I had "disengaged" but I guess not. This time she called my elderly aunt and uncle and they took her. I don't answer the phone anymore.

Her idiot former secretary brought her a bottle of vodka the day before because she called her and told her she just needed some to tide her over before she quits. How can some people be so stupid?

She just keeps gathering more and more enablers and it will never be over.

Sorry to harsh anyone's mellow...

Grannie...mumbling and rocking

1. I'm sorry.
She has to do this for herself without constantly being rescued.

3. I am so sorry!
My sister has a problem ... but she thinks the problem is with the rest of the world, not her. My other sister is her enabler. It's so hard.

4. More proof that no one can save someone else
They have to want to save themselves. Bummer for you - I know what that's like.

As for enablers, they are a strange breed. Some of them seem to think they're "helping" in some strange way. Others I can't seem to get a handle on - the ones who urge, "Oh, c'mon, just one drink isn't going to hurt you!" I've never understood why someone else's desire to quit is something they have to try to sabotage. Maybe a way to feel better about themselves? I don't know.

At any rate, I'm sorry you're dealing with this - it's no fun at all. I have a lot of compassion for addicts of all stripes (I've been one - I know that place) but they are a very selfish group and those who love them tend to get sucked into their dramas. It's very wearing.

5. Ugh.
I'm sorry. I hope that in one of these trips to detox she learns to take back some control over her own life. It is frustrating as hell to watch a family member go through this self-destructive behavior. Sometimes just when you think it's never going to end, the person gets the right message and starts the process of cleaning up the tattered life.
Many hugs to you, grannie.
