Roy Williams' Late TD Stuns Eagles 21-20

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051115/ap_on_sp_fo_ga_su/fbn_cowboys_eagles_12

PHILADELPHIA - Donovan McNabb went to his knees and buried his face in the grass. The pain from his groin injury and his game-turning interception were far worse than anything Terrell Owens could've done. The Eagles' problems are much bigger than T.O. now.

Roy Williams intercepted McNabb's pass and ran it back 46 yards for a touchdown with 2:43 left, leading the Dallas Cowboys to a 21-20 comeback victory over Philadelphia on Monday night in the Eagles' first game since Owens was told he's no longer welcome.

"I didn't really think he was gonna throw the ball," Williams said. "My eyes lit up and the rest is history."

The notoriously boorish Philly fans were just as eager to move on without Owens as the team. Before the game, radio station WIP-AM held a mock funeral for Owens in which fans put their No. 81 jerseys — and even some money — in a casket. One of the talk-show hosts, Howard Eskin, cremated one of the jerseys and spread the ashes in the end zone.

I swear, McNabb is like a special olympics contestant.

5. 6-3
I've seen most of the games and I am shocked that they are 6-3. Of course, they have lost some they should have won and won some they clearly should have lost....so????

15. I'm shocked, too. They should be 9-0.
They've lost three games, each by less than one score. Two they lost by the margin of missed field goals by Jose Cortez. The Redskins loss was because they took a nap on the field for two plays (plus Joe Gibbs just outsmarted Parcels on two great plays that he seemed to have set up all evening).

I don't think they are serious powerhouse contenders, don't get me wrong. But they've been in every game they've played, and they've dominated some of them.

Last night they should have lost, but they did to Phillie what the Redskins did to them.

10. Ha, yeah...
A win is a win, but still...Dallas won that game because we sucked so bad, not because Dallas was good.

As I've pleaded after every game - NOW can we bench McNabb?!

Sheesh. Now I'm convinced Andy Reid rides the short bus to games with McNabb.

11. Uhm, McNabb is the only thing holding your team together.
What do you expect to happen when you haven't had a 100 yard rushing performance for the entire season? Westbrook is only AVERAGING 46 ypg. Yeah, that's the kind of running back I'd break the bank for, especially when guys like Shaun Alexander and Edgerrin James were on the market. :sarcasm:

12. I don't hardly think so.
McNabb is the only one losing games for the rest of the team. Somehow, he always manages to undo the solid 55 minutes of good work by the rest of the team with his own poor judgment. This has become an every game, consistent as gravity thing for him. We either need a big play and he always fails to deliver, or we are about to score and he throws an interception, or we're ahead and he throws the game away with an interception.

I hope he gets deactivated the rest of the season. Trust me, the team would not self-destruct if he didn't play anymore. I hardly think it could get any worse. We played in the Super Bowl last year and 9 games in we're 4 and 5.

18. You can't even say McNabb is the problem or they will bench you
for the rest of the season and throw little hissie fits about it.

I like the Eagles as much as any Cowboys fan can, but I hope they lose the rest of their games. Their immature way of handling the blabbermouth Owens reminds me of the way my six year old daughter handles her problems. They should have held a press conference the day after the interview and laughed about it. Andy Reid should have stepped to the mike and laughed and said "Ah, it's just TO, he can't control what he says. Now, we gotta go practice. See you at the Super Bowl." Then McNabb should have stepped up and said "We probably would be undefeated with Brett Favre. TO can compare me to my momma as long as he catches the ball when I throw it to him. See you at the Super Bowl."

Instead they let their egos decide their team roster. They don't deserve to win. They knew TO was a loudmouth when they got him, why does it bother them?

30. I agree with you...
I think it was poorly handled at all levels. But I don't know if we "don't deserve to win." I think the entire team has played their hearts out except for McNabb. The rest of the team has really done their job as far as I can tell, and for them I feel really bad. They are the ones paying the price for McNabb's repeated shitty decisions and playing and Reid's shitty coaching.

And, I like Dallas as much as the next Eagles fan, but we outplayed you guys pretty solidly last night. It's true though that in the end, it only matters whether it was a W or an L.

I'm going to hold out hope that we will finally get McNabb the medical attention he needs and at least finish the season with some respect. The entire thing has been an embarassment and a damn shame.

39. yeah, I probably shouldn't have said they don't deserve to win
I think McNabb, who I love, has played his heart out, but he's too injured to be good right now, and it's led to bad throws and bad decisions. TO and Michael Irvin were right--the Eagles would be much better right now with Brett Favre (how that was an insult to McNabb I just don't get. Every team but the Patriots could say that right now, probably.)

Reid's coaching isn't bad usually, but he's got to make decisions not just on what plays to call, but also whether his QB can handle them, so there are too many ways his calls can go wrong. I like Reid, actually. He's better than Rhodes was, and only gets too conservative when his options are limited. I used to love to play Ray Rhodes, because I knew he'd score a field goal on the opening drive and then try to run out the clock.

And yes, the Eagles outplayed the Cowboys last night for most of the game. But the Cowboys did what they needed to stay close. And the Cowboys did outplay the Eagles in the last game. So I think both teams have an argument that they are the best right now. The Cowboys were bad last night--probably the worst they've played all season. Not sure why. Bledsoe was hesitant and slow (that's not unusual), the team looked like they were still on a bye week for most of the game. Maybe it was Parcels. He buried his brother earlier that day, and you could tell when they cut to him that he was not focused on the game very much. He wasn't yelling at his players or challenging the officials. He looked like he'd rather be in his room crying. It was sad to see.

Are slipping out from under all the walls here in Philly....

But that's ok, The Eagles and New England are having post super-bowl let down years, The Cowgirl's still suck ( Yes I know, we suck more THIS YEAR), the Giants will win the division and lose in the first round.

And then next year the universe will right itself and The Eagles will go back to dominating the NFC!

33. Frankly, I think the Redskins are sitting pretty well right now.
They need a few players on offense (a consistent QB would be good), and some depth on defense. They are on the way up. The Cowboys and Giants are, too. The Eagles are imploding, letting their egos decide their lineup, then whining when they lose. That's what's killed them every time they've been good since the Buddy Ryan days. They get so upset that they are losing that they can't pull it together.

The division is starting to look like it did in the 90s, where each team had a real chance to contend each year. The Cowboys had the edge most of that time, I think the Giants will for the next few years, but I see the Cowboys and the Redskins as both solid, well-coached teams that just don't quite have the depth or star talent to be the best. Of course, either team has a chance in any season, and both teams could get a star player or two and change the dynamics.

It's probably the best coached division in football. All four coaches build teams from the line up, so none of them rely on luck or on superstar play from the glamor positions. The Eagles had that superstar power, but were too dumb to keep it. The Giants might have it, if Eli keeps it up (and he probably will). Should be a fun division for a few years to come. Except that three of the coaches are aging, so they could retire at any time. The best thing that could happen to the Redskins would be for Parcels to win the Super Bowl this year, because he'd lose interest after that.

Just my observations. Probably wrong. They always are.
