1. Only when used as a ploy to
win an argument. Like most guys, I can't cry on demand ...

They are crying because they are in your presence, not on demand.

nonetheless, many women cry in order to gain advantage in particular situations, just as many men use other tactics to be manipulative; it's life.

22. I try NOT to cry. I've learned that to most people crying = weakness.
Sometimes I just can't help it, though. Because I can't "cry on demand," it makes me less likely to conclude others can, or that they would use it as a weapon against me.

I find it strange that a person's first reaction to tears is, "They're using it to manipulate me." Weird.

23. it's not my first reaction; it's when women whom i work with tell me that
they've cried on driver's licensing tests, when they are about to get a ticket, in job interviews, etc..., and then they say that it helped them to get what they want. sorry if i'm a cynic about these people whom i've met :eyes:

42. I've cried during some of those circumstances, not on purpose
I was really upset when I failed my driver's test for the third time and the examiner started really digging into me. I couldn't help it. There is no way that I thought that it would make him change his mind. In fact, he yelled at me and didn't finish his comments.
I never got a ticket, but I don't know if I could handle it if I did. I don't know if I would cry. I'd probably have a panic attack though.
I only cried once during a job interview. It was at a temp agency. I didn't get a job right out of college as planned. My husband was being hard on me about getting a job. I was getting discouraged about my job situation. This evil glamour queen type woman, the type who always made fun of me in school, said that my degree in biology was worthless because it didn't have a direct job associated with it. I also had no chance of getting a job because I didn't have an internship. She, on the otherhand, did the right thing, majoring in human resources and having a good internship. I couldn't help it in that case. I wouldn't have thought that it would help. When I cried when such girls made fun of me, as it seemed like she was doing, they only laughed harder.

I'll do anything not to cry in public, in an office setting, etcetera. At the same time, when I finally fell in love, I discovered that my tears are now much closer to the surface .

Weird.

39. Me too, but it's out of my hands now.
I'll give her all the support and encouragement I can, but she cheated on me, so you know how that works... Even though I know it's all related to her issues, that just damages the trust a little too much for me to stand by her completely. Plus there's that whole "I absolutely deserve to be treated a hell of a lot better" thing that's hard for anyone with some self-esteem to overcome.

Still, I'll continue to be friends with her and give her everything she needs in that capacity.

18. I find it alarming when I get home from work, and there is mrs. anarch,
sitting on the couch crying. And after five full minutes of "what's wrong...what is it...what happened?" I finally figure out that she just finished watching, like, "Little House on the Prairie" or something, and there is nothing at all wrong. Jeebus. Scare me half to death, why dontcha. I have never seen anyone cry on account of movies/TV shows as much as she does...but I find it endearing, really, not annoying. It just scares me sometimes.

24. boy, that's pretty extreme, P

I don't find it annoying, since everyone cries now and then. I suppose if it's a ploy, but I really don't think most women cry as a ploy. I tend to think of it as genuine and I really don't think it is a weakness.

I mean, now you see more men crying on tv, and such, and they are considered more enlightened if they do....

30. Yes.
The ones who do it publicly and create giant scenes so all their friends will see how upset they are and side with them/give them 'hugz'/support them about the stupidest, most juvenile crap. Ladies, if you are SO upset that your boyfriend just possibly smiled in the direction of another girl, go home. Please. & pick up some perspective on the way.

So maybe not in general :P

Women should:

Be treated like the majority:

Run the Government

Own the Industries

and I went from teary to riphisfuckinheadoff in about three-tenths of a second. I'm not much of a sobber, so I expect some consideration when I get that upset- regardless of the cause. I only find it annoying in people who "use" their tears, or cry incessantly about everything.

40. Not particularly
But I had a student telling me that her father said she is not allowed to cry. She said that sometimes when she's very angry, she starts to cry and then he won't listen to her anymore. I saw a bumper sticker that said "speak your mind even if your voice shakes" so that sums it up for me.

41. It's often not manipulation
If a woman has been brought up not to express anger but has been allowed to express fear or sadness, it may be impossible for her to express anger openly, but the emotion overflows into tears involuntarily.

It's the mirror image of the man who can't express sorrow or fear and so gets angry when he's sad or frightened.
