Ever fail a class in elementary/middle/high school?
I got a "needs improvement" in handwriting in elementary school. I could write nicely enough, but was too impatient to do so. Other than that, the closest I came to failing anything was a "D" in Physics, my senior year. It was after lunch- which we were allowed to leave campus for. I kept getting stoned and sleeping through class.

1. Thankfully, no
I did get comments on my handwriting but that wasn't a seperate class so I didn't have to worry about failing. If it had been I may have had a problem.

Math, math, math, and physics.

And I almost flunked history.

And then there was college...

4. I was held back in 1st grade.
And my high school career was more than checkered. Mostly due to an escapist bent of mine.

except I never retook Algebra after the first failed attempt. Guidance councelor wanted to know how I passed Geometry after failing Algebra. I told her I would have had a higher grade, too, except they started adding Algebra in with the Geometry. :)

Only class I ever failed, too.

I was okay with Algebra but absolutely hated Geometry-- mostly because of proof-writing.

11. Not until highschool actually...
One of my math classes and computer science. The computer science teacher was horrible and mean--she was so hateful toward me, I never figured out why...oh well.

Haven't thought about that in what feels like a million years. LOL!

13. in highschool
failed algebra my freshman year, took it sophomore year and got straight A's (different teacher) senior year I failed senior social studies. I begged for help, we were learning stocks/trading I had no clue, teacher kept telling me "it's in the book, read it" every time I asked for help, I would read it over and over and it still made no sense to me. I ended up taking summer school and graduated a couple of months late. In fact, 10 of us out of a class of about 100 all took summer school together.

In elementary school, I was held back in third grade, again with about ten other kids in a class of about 30. (different state)

14. I bombed out of high school altogether.
No big deal though, got a GED, went to college right on schedule, got my shit together, turned out fine (recognizing that definitions of "fine" may vary). Other than when registering for college classes, nobody's ever asked me for a diploma anyway.

29. My Husband had to take Sophomore gym his Senior year.
He moved to MN from Florida his junior year, and the course requirements were different. He got mono that year and had to quit gym halfway through the year, necessitating his senior year participation. It was hilarious, because he was SO much bigger than all the Sophomore boys and they all looked scared of him!

Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 08:31 AM by jmm
My teacher that year Mrs McGrath was the first person to ask me to use my powers for good.

added on edit

I almost forgot, I was failing my creative writing class in high school until I complained to the teacher that the TA was being unfair. After explaining the situation and showing him all my papers he agreed to regrade them and I got an A for the class.

24. I'm a late bloomer...
I became a failure later in life...about age 24 or so. I'm slowly recovering, and I think I'll be back to almost successful just about the time the next big economic depression kicks in.

Lara, trying to picture you back in high school getting stoned... were you as adorable then as you are now?

30. Aw, don't feel bad. I flunked out my fourth quarter of college.
Well, 3 F's and one A, anyway. I was having "personal issues." :P
I looked pretty much the same in high school, except I had brown hair with a blonde streak instead of the current shade. Oh- and I didn't straighten my hair then (it's really curly if I leave it alone.)

You are such a sweetheart! I refuse to believe you will make anything less than a phenomenal rebound in your life!

36. Awww.... thanks!
A hug from you makes my day -- any day!

I really shouldn't complain... I'm more of a case failing to remotely achieve my potential than abject failure. I count myself fortunate in many, many ways -- always had a warm place to sleep and steady employment and reasonably good health. But I've missed out on a lot, too. I'm just now waking up to a lot of real "living" things that have escaped me for all these years.

32. Yeah...
I was supposed to keeping a daily journal for English for the entire marking period on Hatchet. I wrote on the first page how much I hated the book and turned it in. The teacher handed it back as insufficient so I wrote several more entries on how I wish that my plane crashed in Canada so that I didn't have to deal with the bickering during my parent's divorce. how cool it was, that I wished I was that kid, how much I hated my parents, etc.

Teacher gave me an F. :nopity:

33. Got two "D"s in band in high school
two trimesters in a row. Which is really really funny, because I play several musical instruments, sing, and am blessed with perfect pitch. I just hated the director, hating practicing, and hated the class. Hence the Ds I guess.

34. I failed US History twice in High School
Ironic because history is my favorite subject. I had the most boring teacher on the face of the planet - he also was one of those guys who kind of spit when he talked. Yuck!

Anyway, the first year, it was my last class of the day and just before it, i had a study hall. As a junior, i was allowed to leave campus for any free period and so I'd leave and just not come back. It seemed too much to face.

The following year, I looked at my schedule on the first day and saw it the exact same way - same time, same teacher, same study hall just before. I went to my guidance counselor and told her, hey I'm going to fail this class again unless you can change it. She told me my schedule was too full to change (it was so full, I didn't even have lunch scheduled every other day).

So I failed it again - self-fulfilling prophecy. Gave up and dropped out halfway through my senior year. Figured if no one else cared, neither did I. Nice attitude.

Years later, I ran into that teacher in a supermarket line. I let him go ahead of me and when he thanked me, told him I felt I owed him since I failed his class twice. He said, "No one ever failed it TWICE.... Skygazer?!"

It was quite funny.

Prior to my senior year the lowest grade I ever received was a C. I think I got one C in chemistry and Algebra. But my senior year I got a D on my Pre-calculus final. It went on a separate column on my report card but had no effect on my final grade which was a B. Still seeing a D kinda hurt

42. I failed a "six weeks" of Spanish in high school
Made a 59 on the last six weeks grading period; I made a high enough grade on the final exam to save my grade and pass for the semester. I was going through a regrettable period of my life during my freshman year when I got depressed and isolated and stopped caring about my grades; probably my making low grades was partly to get my family to notice how depressed I was. It was a really stupid move that prevented me from ever being an honor graduate. I was a pretty smart kid (I was ranked seventh in the class at the end of eighth grade) and despite making all A's and a few B's my junior and senior years, I couldn't save myself from the awful grades from my freshman year.
