1. Mississippi--apparently, they think it's 1910.
Need to end a pregnancy? Screw you. Need contraceptives to prevent pregnancy? Screw you. Need not to be raped? Screw you. Need the police and the D.A.s to investigate and prosecute your attackers? Screw you. The reason? You're a woman, you're not entitled to any rights. Don't like it? Move, dumb bitch.

I can't believe a state like that exists in the modern world in this country.

23. Abortion is under attack in all 50 states, to one degree or another....
I have no idea why you think its so much worse here than in South Dakota, Idaho or Oklahoma but I assure you that it isn't particularly difficult in Mississippi. There is only one abortion clinic in the state (in Jackson, the capitol) but I understand thats also not uncommon in much of the farm belt, midwest. Restrictions here are certainly no worse than in many other rural states. My female friends don't feel particularly mistreated or imposed upon.

But we all have our prejudices...

I'll admit Mississippi is not in the vangard of women's rights but it certainly doesn't deserve the horror and condemnation your post inspires.

6. That state you get in when you find out the girl you loved in high school
divorced the man who won her, and was looking for you at exactly the time you were splitting up from your spouse, but couldn't find you and remarried...

I hate that one. I don't hate any geographic states. I used to hate all northern states. I still look at them with suspicion and fear, but they vote good, at least. They just are too self-righteous, sometimes.

12. That's not true.
Misconception. We do have the right to divide into five states (which would give us a whopping TEN senators all together, imagine that!), but we cannot secede. Not legally, anyway.

"The annexation resolution has been the topic of some incorrect historical beliefs—chiefly, that the resolution was a treaty between sovereign states, and granted Texas the explicit right to secede from the Union. This was a right argued by some to be implicitly held by all states at the time, and until the conclusion of the Civil War. However, no such right was explicitly enumerated in the resolution. The resolution did include two unique provisions: first, it gave the new state of Texas the right to divide itself into as many as five states with approval of its legislature. Texas retains this right today. Second, Texas did not have to surrender its public lands to the federal government. While Texas did cede all territory outside of its current area to the federal government in 1850, it did not cede any public lands within its current boundaries. This means that generally, the only lands owned by the federal government within Texas have actually been purchased by the government."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Texas

Not only is wiki correct in this case, but I used to be a tour guide at the Texas State Capitol and Governor's Mansion (1998-2001 - go on, ASK!), and I endorsed this message.

One of the MOST beautiful states, but God forbid the gub'mint should try to create a new national park or monument to protect it in perpetuity. While it's okay to marry 17 women and have 60 kids and have them all on government welfare.

(But the same can be said for any red state: trash the same government that pays your way)

And remember folks: Texas and Alabama both have counties that are more liberal than San Francisco!!!!

To the DUers from either state--I have nothing against you guys. Honest. Really.

But Texas is on my shit list because of the fact that their Republicans bash "Massachusetts libruls" with such ferocity that I want to vomit. You guys gave us Ann Richards, Sam Rayburn and Lyndon Johnson, though, so you're not completely without merit.

Kansas--guys, what is wrong with that state? Sure, Gov. Sebelius is a Dem, but that's about all you've got going for you. Is it 1910 there?

And that's only because I lived there for five years on two different occassions and in two different locations, the Phoenix area and Tucson.

I hated the summers, the corporate culture and the hypocrisy about illegal immigration, i.e., the fact how everybody is drawn to the state because of cheap housing, but once they get there, they never stop bitching about the Mexicans.

If it weren't for the Mexican construction workers who worked for pennies to build homes during the 1990s boom, there would have been no cheap housing.

Meanwhile, I'll sit back here in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia, where state legislators calling themselves Democrat and Senator race each other to be the first to sponsor drop-dead-stupid wingnut laws like declaring that a blastocyst can be a victim of a crime, while at the same time rejecting laws that would protect already born people who might happen to be gay.
