It's produced by Tarentino and is about some American dudes going on a sex vacation in E. Russia. It's got slavery, torture and mayhem. It looks absolutely gruesome.

1. It's by the guy who did 'Cabin Fever' which I rate
and the violence been bigged up along the likes of Ichi the Killer - indeed, Takashi Miike has a cameo which is really cool. It's probably going to be a looong time before it comes to the UK though.

2. You liked "Cabin Fever"?
I thought it was OK, but a bit of a mess.

3. Never saw Ichi the Killer. Is that the one where the guy eats a live squid
or something like that? I thought Cabin Fever had a few moments but was predictable, forgettable and heavy handedly directed. Can't even remember it now. The older I get, harder it is for me too sit through long graphic violent sequences that have no humor. I don't see how there can be much humor in Hostel -- torture sequences in the Abu Grahim era just seems like a tasteless call.

I just saw Street Mobster (l972), a Yakuza flick that supposedly was a big influence on many directors. Excellent.

4. The live octopus is in Oldboy
(which - dear God no - Nic Cage is keen on playing the lead in a US remake) - It's an excellent, excellent film. It's the 2nd in the 'vengeance trilogy', the first being "Sympathy for Mr Vengeance" and the 3rd, which opens in a month or so, "Lady Vengeance". Top stuff.

"Cabin Fever" isn't original or groundbreaking, but I thought it was a great little romp (much like Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses") and thoroughly enjoyed it.
