What was with those pointy bras of the 50s?
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 08:15 PM by yvr girl
Did they not know how to make seamless ones yet? (Which begs the questions, why weren't they pointy before?) Or was the pointy look just HOT in the 50s.

2. They were an imitation of the "bumper bullets" on the cars
of the era. Yep, not joking. Back then, it was "sexy". To the men, anyhoo.

5. Putting on a pundit hat....
I believe the bras were designed that way so that men would believe the women were in, for lack of a better word, a constant state of arousal...

This is probably why the baby boom occured....

6. This design might have been partly responsible for that baby boom...
But a bigger part of the baby boom was that the men were returning from the war, and were ready to settle down and have families.....

8. I think pointy bras
fall under "intelligent design" rather than evolution. Or maybe non-intelligent design.

10. I think..
.... the pointy style was easier to manufacture. Basically a cone, requires only one sideways seam.

Personally, Madonna or not I find the cone tit unappealing. :)

14. Launch On Warning.
Post WWII culture was cheap and massed produced, other countries did not recover from WWII until the 60s.Two fabric cones were easy to mass produce along with tract houses,chung-king in a can and cars that Nader built his fame upon.Standardization of manufacture spread to everything so we got circumcision and boobs that looked like the nose cone of a missile.Pointless conformity like duck and cover led to pointed conformity in undergarments.America had the tallest buildings, the longest bridges, the greatest dams, there was nothing engineering could not make the envy of the known world. They were symbolic in the 60s when they were set free and now they make peace or war as it suits them.

20. The design is actually back....
... for larger breasted women that is.

There is something to the design that is supposed to be better on the back. They've tweaked it a bit, but the same basic torpedo look is there.

24. Torpedo tits. Plastified atomic-age modernity, those design lines make
sense, if you think about it. The "Modern Wonder" of it all.

And Madonna wore them in the early 90s too.
