How many states have you been to? I've been to 23 (and DC)
I live in Michigan and I've been to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. Also, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. And North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky.
And I flew out to Las Vegas to get married the second time. So Nevada is on the list as is Arizona -- if you count my being at the eastern end of the Hoover Dam. I've flown over Nebraska and Colorado, but I've never set foot in either of them.
I've also been to Ontario and Quebec -- but never to Mexico or overseas, neither.
John
Where have you been in your life?

Was in school in Madison, Wisconsin and got a couple friends to leave around midnight drive 12 hours to the badlands, walk around for a bit, and then drive back. It was nuts, but so beautiful out there.

7. My criteria are you had to physically be there
The way I always personally used to count states was you had to enter at one spot and leave at another. But I'd be cheezing on Arizona under that standard and, for counting purposes here, I chooz to cheez.
John
I've also been to every single TOWNSHIP in Michigan's Lower Peninsula (1093, for those counting at home). I think that's a nifty accomplishment.

Went to Alaska by bus on a 30 day bus pass in 1979. Had to promise the Canadians I wouldn't even think about working while in Canada before they would let me in.

Was in Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon on that trip and have since then visited Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario without any hassle.

My dad was a liberal Republican (a type sadly extinct today) and a wonderful social companion -- funny, smart, absolutely charming and looked like John Garfield to boot.
Admitted to voting for Reagan twice and Nixon three times.
We never could do a damned thing with him politically but, thankfully, mom's vote always cancelled his vote. And I wish I could still argue with him today.
Anyhow, some of my best friends are Republicans. So is at least one Marxist and one fundamentalist Christian, too. Funny how that all works out.

40. Not that far.
Moved to NC. Been to VA (lottery tickets), DC (see the Capital), to GA (to see good friends) thus having to travel thru SC. Touched on the east part of TN after visiting Cherokee (Dollywood). So until last year it was a grand total of five states and a district.

Then we took a road-trip to a conference in Milwaukee, WI. So we drove through VA, WV, KY, IN, IL and then to WI. That doubled the number of states I've physically been in on a single road trip. Our good friends in GA then moved to AL, so a flying trip had to be taken to see them: another state. Total states so far: Eleven (plus DC).

Does flying over NY (or any other state for that matter) count?

Mark.

59. Been too? Let's see.
Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, Massachusetts, New York, California, Texas, North and South Carolina, Georgia, so that makes 11. I live in Maryland (Baltimore all my 26 years of life), so that's 12 states I've visited or lived in.

64. Ok here's my list
New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, DC, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina (really just drive through the state), Florida, Lousiana, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, California.

Oddly enough I've been to every state that borders my home state of Pennsylvania except West Virginia. However, I just had my Suede Jacket drycleaned & repaired. Not only did the jacket go to West Virginia but it got stranded in the snow storm!

If you want to count hanging around an airport waiting for a connection, then:

If I listed countries, I have a much longer list. But that's another thread.

66. All except a handful of the Northern Central ones and Louisiana.
I'd been planning on going to go to New Orleans for my 40th birthday in January. :(

I've never been to North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, nor Nebraska.
