Largest crowds in the History of Mankind.
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 12:55 PM by XNASA
I'm not sure why this intrigues me so much, maybe because I've been surfing for info on this subject for about a week, on and off, and can't find any definitive answers. It's a very elusive subject.

Anyway, here's what I got...

The largest crowd in World history was an estimated 7,000,000 in Manila to see Pope John Paul II celebrate Mass.

The largest one day crowds in the US are the ones that attend any one of the following 3 Chicago area summer events. The July 4th Fireworks, The Air & Water Show and Venetian Night. These crowds are all in the neighborhood of around 1,000,000.

The largest recorded one day paying crowd in history was 761,942 at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.

So what's the deal? Are we the only city in the US where the inhabitants gather like lemmings? Surely NY or LA have larger crowds than this.....

Discuss.

2. LA has massive crowd gatherings, especially at religious events...
Yup, it seems the fundies come out of the wood work for stuff like this.

Examples:

- Televangelist Joel Osteen preached at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim. Sold-out crowd drew at least 70,000.

- The annual Harvest Festival in Anaheim Stadium draws at least 60,000 - 70,000 every year.

- The Billy Graham Bible Crusade was held in Pasadena. Crowds were somewhere in the 100,000's.

- Even the guy who wrote that Purpose Drive Life book, his church has at least 23,000 attendees every week.

Sad thing is, this aint the Bible Belt...
