My cat is in heat. Does it make a cat more
docile to let them have a litter of kittens or worse? This cat has taken a liking to our male cat (who is neutered and can't help her out now) and doesn't seem to like to like humans. This is the first time we've had this problem since all our other cats have been so affectionate.

She's a house cat, but I'm wondering if I should let her out to "play".:D

Any suggestions?
:)

1. No way should you let her have a litter.
I would advise having her spayed as soon as possible. Why would you want her to have kittens that you would just have to find homes for. We already have enough homeless animals in the shelters that are killed by the hundreds of thousands every day.

2. Before I got my Sphynx spayed and she was in her first heat
(which drove me literally up the wall), she would run around with her rear up in the air and YELL at the top of her lungs. She'd then run up to you and rub her hiney on whatever part she could find. Called the vet and they wanted me to wait until she was 'out of heat' before they would spay her.

She would do this around the clock waking me up at all hours of the night screaming like someone was ripping her head off. She even rubbed against my female cats and moan.

I say get her spayed!! Dont let her out of the house, she may never return. I dont know how breeders can put up with this.. I dealt with it for 5 days and I thought I was going to lose it.

3. If she's not spayed, you'll have this problem forever.
Having kittens once (or even multiple times) won't stop the next 'heat' cycle from coming. If you have your cat spayed at the vets, you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

8. she's still a kitten herself
she's not even 8 months old yet. I don't think I could take this for very long.

4. Call the ASPCA
I got a coupon from them years ago to get my cat spayed at the vet for only $35.

6.  my vet's pretty reasonable
at least he was for my male cat. I think he charges a little more to have her spayed, but it will be well worth it.

7. Please get that cat fixed now. Your comment is an "Old Wives Tale"

I'm really hoping this is just a monday morning gag joke. There are thousands of cats living in shelters unwanted & unloved and you want to add to that population.

13. Not entirely...
Our vet charged us an additional fee because she determined the kitten was in heat at the time.
I do agree with the right now part, though. This kitten is old enough for the surgery.

9. Get her spayed. Your neighborhoods and shelters are over-run with far, far
too many unwanted cats and kittens to permit more to come into this world just to get sick, go hungry, get run over, be abused and/ultimately be put down.

Since your cat is only interested in boy cats right now due to the call to breed, she won't be interested in you.

Once she's altered, she's far more likely to bond to you!

All these great reasons to spaye your puddy tat!

Good luck, don't wait!

10. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
Get her spayed. Visit your local shelter and see how many unwanted kittens are already in the world. Many will be euthanized before they even get a chance at life. If they don't end up in the shelters, they will be running around making more kittens. I have a friend who spends her life rescuing and neutering unwanted cats ... and then trying to find homes for them.

From http://members.petfinder.org/~CA361/:
"One unaltered female and her off-spring (conservatively, only 2 litters a year, with 2.8 kittens surviving each time) will produce, in a 10-year breeding period 80,399,780 cats!!!"

11. It's impossible to place kittens
today. Get her spayed or she will drive you nuts! She'll come into heat more and more until it seems all she does it say "me so horney" day and night.

12. Only let her out to play if you're ready for all the extra work it takes t
to foster a litter of kittens! It's worth it, but it's a lot of work. When they start walking, it's just like having 4 - 8 human toddlers running around . . .

:hi:

But if you don't let her out, get her spayed only after estrus passes.

15. Get her spayed
you may end up having to pay extra because cats can come into heat anytime they feel like it and you might not find a window when she's not for the surgery.

18. good God NO!
Spaying will handle it. It would have been better for her tohave it done before the first episode, but that is water under the bridge.
