Taking screenshots of video files in windows media player...

The usual alt+print screen does not work. How does one do this?

1. here's a ghetto technique

you can just hit PrintScreen key and then crop the image using a photo editing program

2. You cannot. One of the few things MS has been able to competently do is

to prevent screen captures of media because it is a violation of copyright. (of course, that's why they got it to work. It involves their paranoia far more than it does their customers' wants or needs.)

Find a 3rd party video player. Most of those have a cute little button whose icon, often representing a camera, allows screengrabs to be made.

3. if you plan to do this a lot.... get Snag-It

an excellent screen capture program with endless customization features. Google around for it. Maybe a... an... uh.... friend... will share a copy.
