1. Other - they're in a constant state of shark-jumpage

2. Other - the series reinvents itself with each new Bond
I think there probably is a point where each individual Bond "jumps the shark", but that is easily remedied by bring in a new Bond.

Now if you want to discuss who the best Bond and worst Bond was, that's a different story.

6. I guess I'm exploring the area between "reinvent" and "rejuvinate"...
I always saw Roger Moore as the George W. Bush Bond...to smirky, too snarky, too pleased with himself. So yes, he kept the franchise moving, but I always felt that he could have used a few more smacks to the nose...

I thought that Dalton was the perfect antidote to Moore...he SEEMED like a secret agent whose former wife had been killed by Blofeld. Unfortunately, no one's going to nail the nuance of a character after only two movies.

And Brosnan? Well, he went on record as saying he hated the aspects of the character that Moore warmed up to (the double entendres and jokes and such). I thought he was better than Moore and less than Connery.

I hope the new guy shocks the world with his take on the character because I've gotta tell you, I'm not buying it so far...

:toast:

7. Dalton was the series' only chance of regaining any credibility
007 is the SNL of the big screen.

8. The actor who made Bond most like the book version is a candidate?!
Timothy Dalton, naturally.

Connery, when not wooden in his performances, is a venerable #2 - though from "Thunderball" onward he's nowhere near as cool.

Roger Moore, in "For Your Eyes Only" and to a lesser extent "The Spy Who Loved Me" makes a very respectable #3. FYEO is my favorite of the franchise.

George Lazenby, who couldn't act to save his ego, is #4. Looks the role, can pass in a fight scene, but just cannot act. He also reads a playboy in the movie he's in. (With all the action and diseases Bond must have, he also needs to look at playboy pics?!)

Brosnan is #5. "Goldeneye" had real potential, but the rest of the movies were glorified glossy campfests, rather like Roger Moore's poorest outings but with more blatant sexual commentary (it's not even innuendo!)

(wow. Brosnan seemed to have no qualms playing the role he turned into a wussy agdget-ridden pretty boy. Had he chosen to play the role with more intent than flippancy, he likely would have stayed on. He would have done a passable and deserved remake of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" on the assumption he would have played it straight.)

9. Never liked it to begin with.
Never even saw one (except for bits here and there) until like two years ago.

Don't get it.

But then I am a liberal, feminist, female.

10. At "Moonraker"

"Moonraker" was so profoundly silly, so ridiculously over the top, that the franchise never really recovered.
