What are these spam emails with over 100 characters in the from field?
...and how do I block them?
I did not put this message in the Computer Group because I felt that most likely a high percentage of others are receiving this junk.
A search using google was not helpful.

1. DANGEROUS JUST DELETE THEM, random headers
don't try to block, that's why they are using this tactic. Eventually they stop, sorry but it's just a never ending battle.

2. Which e-mail app are you using?

Haven't seen any spam of the sort you mentioned. But I've been using Thunderbird's learning filter and all the spam just goes straight to my trash, no questions asked, about 99% of the time now.

If you have to manually set this up, and they're filling the From field with 100s of random characters, you can probably filter on the HELO server IP or the content.

If you know how, look at the source for the e-mail and post the complete headers. There's probably something in there you can use.

3. Two reasons...
1) They're random, so they avoid spam filters (no two are alike)

OR

2) They're coded, so not only do they avoid spam filters, but they identify that you read them (and not some other schmoe)
