2. Yep
This is my first year in college. I'm living three and a half hours away and I do not drive.

5. That must be tough
My college was only 30 minutes from home and I drove so it was not a difficult transition. I moved out after the first semester but it was still only a half hour from where I had been.

7. then it is not really "home" any more
I was six hours away when I went to college and did not get a driver's license until I was 22. I would have stayed the whole time, except the dorm kicked us out during trimester breaks. I used to be just about the only person there around Cursegiving.

8. No matter what, I cannot see the dorms as my home.
Really, I don't think I'm made for living in a small area with many people, the stress has been insane.

10. true, dorms are not home
but now, neither is your parents home, probably. Well, except for having an unbalanced roommate and a non-private sleeping area, I remember my freshman year kinda fondly - learning to play chess, risk, and 500. Watching TV in the lounge and lifting weights.

Dammit, only I also remember a conversation in the cafeteria. I said "dang, this sucks." And he said "someday you will look back on this as a great time." I said "no, I won't, because I am keeping a journal."

Now I need to dig out my journal and remind myself of how much it sucked. Dealing with my roommate was a major bummer, but in my sophomore year I got a single room, but I also lost the lounge where we played cards and risk. Probably the part that really sucked was the not-getting-laid part which now does not seem like such a big deal.

9. Well, I don't drive
Although there's now a conspiracy to try and get me to get my license, it seems.
