so i was looking at craigslist
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 12:32 AM by datasuspect
for rental prices in different cities (not NYC, chicago, la, or sf).

is rent like a thousand fucking dollars per month EVERYWHERE in this fucking country with the exception of backwaters with no public transportation?

or is craigslist somewhat skewed?

and $1000. Studios are cheaper.

8. that doesn't sound so bad
is it easy to get around as an illegal in canada (cash jobs, low documentation lifestyles)?

i'm hitting the road sometime next week and was considering vancouver or something.

i don't want to go anywhere too cold as i might do some "urban camping" for awhile.

12. not that easy...
...but construction is booming on the West Coast. You might be able to get paid without a SIN (our SSN), but you still need documentation to open a bank account.

no credit cards, debt, possessions.

i live pretty much off the radar with the exception of intermittent serial employment.

i've never been a criminal, but i live like one (insofar as it relates to not being TOO traceable not actually committing crimes).

7. Pittsburgh has really great rent rates
I live in a two-bedroom for $550 with all utilities except electric, and I live at the most 15 minutes away from anything to do in the city. 550-650 is the going rate for a decent apartment here. I think its mostly because there's very few apartments in the downtown area of Pittsburgh.

14. Rent is just spendy.. In Eugene..
It is easy to get nice two bedroom for 550$ per month.

I pay 150$ to share a four bedroom house with six other people.. The cheapest place I have found to be solo in this town was a nice studio in the shittiest part of town for 300$ per month.

26. My youngest shares a fantastic house 3K sq ft
3 other people live there, and they are rarely ever even there together. because the woman who "owns' it is a high school friend of his (a teacher), he only pays 300 a month and does the yard work. her friend is a pharmacist, and the other guy is a friend of my son.

They happily co-exist, and live in a great neighborhood.

he had his own place in downtoen Riverside, which he loved, but the rent was $1,000 a month for a two bedroom (very Melrose Place-looking) ,and his roommate bailed on him..It practically KILLED his bank account, because the leasiing agent insisted on credit reports for the prospective roommates, even though my son qualified on his OWN, and his was the only name on the lease. Most of the people who he would dare to live with could not pass the credit check.. Most had lived at home with Mom & Dad, and didn;t even have credit cards in their own names..

He had to give up his cute little apartment, but he's happier where he is now...and saving money.

24. I was looking at rental prices recently
Studios were $800 and up, and I couldn't find a 1 bedroom for under $900--most were at least $1100. I came to the conclusion that I'll never be able to live alone unless I win the lottery (i.e., I'll never be able to live alone).

Maybe a really tiny, kind of dumpy one bedroom or efficiency.

27. Actually that sounds a little low,
most places I have lived, that amount would get you a little box for an apartment. I think that the list is not up to date.
