17. My theory:

The episode with Nancy Kerrigan as the guest host was so unfunny that it actually created an entertainment vacuum; no matter how funny the subsequent shos may have been, their "funny" was sucked into the void created by the Nancy Kerrigan episode.

Only when the entertainment vacuum is neutralised, will SNL be funny. That would involve a "comedy jam" featuring John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Steve Martin, Christopher Walken, George Burns, Groucho Marx, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Janeane Garofolo, Carl Reiner, Michael McKean, Mr. Bill, Mel Brooks, Peter Cook, and Fr. Guido Sarducci.

And the musical guests will have to be the Beatles, the Rolling Stones in 1967, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin's original line-up, the Police, Elvis Costello when he still rocked, the Sex Pistols, Fear, and Count Basie's Orchestra.

In other words, it ain't gonna happen.
