Remember Leroy from Fame (Gene Anthony Ray) ? Dead at 41
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 09:50 AM by NYYFan
*snip*
Gene Anthony Ray, who starred as Leroy, a street-smart urban teenager, in the 1980 movie "Fame" and the later television series, died on Friday in Manhattan. He was 41.

The cause was complications of a stroke he had in June, and he was also H.I.V. positive, said Jean E. Ray, his mother.

1. How sad. I loved watching him dance.
He had some great moves and a great body. Rest in peace, Gene Anthony Ray.

5. It's a shame...
He was really a mess in the last few years of his life. I think it was the VH1 special "I Love The 80's" where they showed him now. He was stripping in Germany, and he looked completely strung out, though it may have been in response to the HIV medication. My father used to moonlight as a bouncer at Caliente Cab Co in Greenwich Village in the eighties, and he told me about the time he put a drunk Ray in a cab, and Ray tried to drag him in with him.

Anyway, God's speed, Gene.

6. He had IT
Whatever it is that makes people want to know more about you or just watch to see what you will do next, Ray was on.
