T.O apologizes, but Eagles say no way
T.O. apologizes, but Eagles won't take him backESPN.com news services

MOORESTOWN, N.J. -- A contrite Terrell Owens, hoping to overturn his dismissal from the Philadelphia Eagles, on Tuesday apologized to coach Andy Reid, quarterback Donovan McNabb, the team's owner and president, and fans.

"I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates," Owens said, reading a statement outside his house outside Philadelphia.

"It really hurts me not to be a part of this team anymore," Owens said.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Owens was making a public apology in hopes of returning to the Eagles immediately.

"We hope he plays again for the Philadelphia Eagles," Rosenhaus said.

Rosenhaus said Owens wants to return to the Eagles "ASAP."

However, Eagles officials who watched the news conference told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that the team will not take Owens back.

9. Hi, Lynne!
I'm not surprised that the Eagles aren't taking him back. I'm kind of torn here, as I said on another thread. I supported the decision, but might have taken him back after the apology today. Terrell sounded heartfelt to me - though not entirely reassuring. Oh well, let's hope the team moves forward and salvages the season! :hi:

14. He's been doing this all season
He'll spew crap from his mouth and then apologize afterwards.

How many more times should we put up with it. His apologies are heartfelt but it's not like we haven't heard them before.

When he pulled this stunt in pre-season, Reid suspended him for 10 games. You think he'd learn a lesson from this. As someone posted in another thread, Westbrook was also upset with his contract and wanted to renegotiate - but Westbrook didn't make an ass of himself and/or the team in public and now Brian has a new contract.

Terrell made is bed and now realizing that he's losing a ton of money this year AND he'll probably never see another contract worth what he is getting now (or more), he's crying to the media at how wrong he was.

If Reid doesn't put his foot down then the Owens of the NFL will continue pulling this crap.

We so desparately want to go back to the Super Bowl but not with this asshole.

23. I don't know - he's so talented that I would..
let him back one more time. It seemed like the team wanted an apology. I won't get mad at the decision, but I remember what things were like when he was clicking with the rest of the team.

25. Not worth it - he's done this before in San Franscico
Remember, he was also pulling this same exact shit when he was a Niner. When he left the niners there were only two teams willing to take a chance on Owens - us and the Ravens.

He's spoilt goods and it's best that he spend some time sitting at home thinking about what he has done wrong.

Our team is 4-4 and as talented as Owens is, there is something not geling this year with the Eagles that did so brilliantly last year. And from what I've heard - the scuttlebutt is he's been pulling this stuff in the lockerroom too like the incident with Hugh Douglas (http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/PHI/9027643).

So good bye and good riddance.

Owens will be back and maybe the next team that takes him (and trust me, they'll get that talent for a steal) will have better luck with him. If two class act organizations like the Niners and the Eagles can't deal with his antics maybe someone else can

But I think they lost players on defense, the coaching hasn't been as good, and McNabb's been injured. I guess I'm just more forgiving as I think T.O. can learn.

to defeat the heinous Cowboys without him. Or is McNabb planning to play with one arm tied behind his back too?

15. Not worried about it
Seriously

The overall opinion of most Eagles fans is get rid of this asshole, try and salvage the rest of the season and get back into Super Bowl form next year.

We're Philadlephia Sports team fans - we're use to it by now!

6. What the fuck?
"I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates," Owens said, reading a statement outside his house outside Philadelphia.

SO basically he isn't sorry for what he did... he's just sorry it made them mad

7. Meh. People always get most emotional when they are punished...
Never before. Criminals do it too. They sure are having fun robbing some old lady's house, but they cry like babies when they realize they have to go to the clink for a couple years.

Same goes for TO. He's a complete asshole. And then once he realizes that he's out a job and about 1 million bucks, he's all mushy and apologetic. He's no better than any other con artist or crook.

Sort of like the Lounge huh?

Seriously this guy went way outside the TEAM parameters and had to be punished. He goes against the whole team concept...oh and he got in a fight with a teammate last week.

11. I am waaaay too lazy to check
but if memory serves, didn't T.O. play for the Calgary Stampeders a couple of years ago? And got booted? Or was it some other high profile NFL player similar to him?

16. Nope.
He played for San Fran. Wanted out. Accused the QB of being Gay. Was traded to Baltimore. Reneged on that trade and refused to play for them because he wanted to play in Phili. Was eventually signed in Philli. Played really well his first year in PHilli, but got into it with his QB, and the coach a couple of times. He had a Superman performance in the Super Bowl when he returned from a broken leg after only a few weeks. Then held out to get more money during training camp. He accused his QB of playing like he was tired. Got into a shouting match with the coach. Was excused from Training camp for a week. He played well but continued to say stuff you don't say to the media, like how his team would be better off with a different QB. He got into fights in the locker room and finally complained about how Philli didn't celebrate his 100th touchdown catch, although no other Franchises ever did so either.

24. You're not answering my question
I asked if he had ever played in the CFL; or was it some other troublemaker/well known NFL player that played for the Stampeders a couple of years ago? It was someone with a similar nickname.

Thanks. Thanks a lot./sarcasm. I know it was an import (what we call American players, who was called by his initials, like T.O.). Yeah, I'll get back to you on this. But thanks for the heads up.

17. That should be good.
They don't really like each other anyway. Randy has said publicly that TO isn't even in the same league as he is. (Most would disagree with Mr. Moss on that one).

That would not be a pretty scene.

22. Oh waaaaah! I find it hard to have sympathy for millionaire assholes
And that is exactly what TO is. Yes, he is a great talent, but his mouth and attitude continue to get him into hot water, and now when it is time to pay the piper he becomes all contrite and apologetic. Screw him!

I'm glad to see Reid and the Eagles are holding firm, it increases my respect for a team I already like. They've probably just chucked this season away, but they're doing the right thing, and will come back stronger next year.
