I'm having hummus! Who's with me?
I'm trying to get into the spirit of the Lounge today. Just to see what it's like for some of the others here. I will be eating hummus later, made with roasted red pepper and garlic. Organic, or course. Do we have any other hummus fans here?

1. Wouldn't you rather partake is some delicious HuFu?
Its the tofu snack that tastes like human flesh. Tastey, nutricious, and mildly disturbing.

7. I buy it weekly from "The Pita Inn" with fresh baked pita....
not organic, but very very very very fresh! Hummos is best fresh, I like mine smooth like yoplait and with olive oil.

8. I LOVE hummus
Don't know what it is, but I can eat gobs of it with toasted pita bread. A place near my house makes it fresh - yummy! :hi:

10. Oh I love hummus
Just an FYI, it's both much yummier and much cheaper to make it yourself and it takes like 5 minutes once you cook the chickpeas.

I included a recipe. It makes a lot, like probably 24 oz. worth but it freezes well...once you unfreeze it, just plop it back in the processor and add water slowly until the consistency is where you want it.

This is my recipe that I got...actually, I think it was my horoscope one week. :-)

• half package dry chick peas
• soak overnight (or for 8 hours)
• cook half-hour until tender

In food processor:
• the chick peas
• 1t garlic
• 1t salt
• 2T olive oil
• 1/3t cumin
• juice of 1 lemon
• 3T tahini

Puree in a food processor or blender. You will need to gradually add about a cup of water to keep the chick peas mixing and mushing. Mix a lot, like for a minute longer than you think, until smooth. Cool in fridge.

Eat.

15. That works too
I prefer to cook them because I think it tastes fresher...I'll admit I've cheated to use canned before...It's still good, but the canning adds some saltiness and for how rarely I make hummus, I like to go as close to fresh and organic as I can. If I could find undried fresh (peas or beans) I'd try using em.

12. thick
The hummus I make is so thick that it is ruining my blender. Granted, it's an old blender. And I'd love to have an excuse to buy a new one.
