Got fired today
Wont say who from, wont say why---got pissed at an HR drone---just sucks all the way round.

Company wouldnt pay me what the promised, and lied to me from day 2. Wife still loves me and my kid thinks I'm the greatest. I think it's time to move on to greener pastures, and do the kind of things I want to do rather than the kind of things that my resume says I should be doing.

So I need a job

Anyone need a technical mathematics editor that really likes photography, and can do integrals with a slide rule?

1. Sorry to hear that
but I hope it all works out.

I was in a bad situation myself- way too much work for one person... I walked out on Oct 3 and never went back... was terminated on the 7th. It still hurts a little. I got right back out there and amazingly, I started a contract job on Oct 27 that pays 50% more and is a much better professional opportunity.

So I say roll with it. I am glad you have family support. They say do what you love, the money will follow... You've obviously got some good skills so look for an employer who deserves you!

all the best to you!

2. I dunno about Over There
but Over Here there're always ads for technical writers/editors at Craigslist. (http://www.craigslist.org) Go to the locale forum nearest you and click the "writing/editing" link in the jobs section (it's the bottom one).

Best of luck.

3. Sorry to hear this
You still have something a lot of people would give almost anything to have - "Wife still loves me and my kid thinks I'm the greatest."
Good luck, hope something turns up soon for you.

wishing you the best in your new efforts though. It sounds like you already have an idea about where you want to go with it.

15. Done in by an HR creep?
I thought once you got to the place where you occupied space as unique as "technical mathematics editor" you got a little lee-way with the 'droids. Damn!

I suggest a personal crusade to teach the slide rule to the computer generation, a la Johnny Appleseed.

It's a tough thing, but I admire your fortitude. That whole "free your mind, your ass will follow" thing may sound corny, but it's also very true.

Since your mind is already free, I expect we'll hear good things soon.

:headbang:

Yeah, it might, but I second the "but it's true" assessment. Faith in your own abilities and worth, especially in a "principle" sense, means FAILURE IS IMPOSSIBLE.

16. Preznit * needs a math tutor.
Or was that a meth tooter.
Or did he say a "math death"....uh, whatever it was...

Sorry man. Hang in there. I went through the same thing but with an added twist, and the best gig I've had came in just 7 desperate months

I'm sure this will be one of those cases where, in a short period of time, the closed window leads to a nice, big, fat, open door. :-)

19. I still have my slide rule from the 50's
And forgot how to use it so long ago I had forgotten I still had it till I read your post. I used to use it to show kids what the first computers looked liked.;)

I am sure you made the right decision. Your specialty is unheard of, and quite exotic to say the least. You better than any of us know what you can do. I hope the scumbag HR person eats shit for losing you. And I wish you my best.
