Question on Electric Razors (Disability related)
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 02:55 AM by DanCa
I was thinking of putting this in the disability group but I figured I would get a faster response here. I was wondering which brand of electric razor that you use because the Dyskensia in my hands is progressing to the point where I cant use a straight edge any more without replaying the bathroom scene from airplane. Thanks ps I have been using a remmington electric and it's a poc. It tears the skin like hell.
PS Dyskensia is involuntary hand movements and shaking. An symptom of parkinson's. Just fyi. Thanks .

1. I've had good luck with Panasonic
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 03:07 AM by Floogeldy
Mine is similar to this, only I paid about $30 more for it (I think they have lowered their prices):

Edit: This shaver has gotten bad reviews. Maybe a more expensive Panasonic would be better. At least, mine works great. :)

6. Same Here
I've had a Braun, a Norelco, and a Panasonic (2) over the last 30 years. I've got my dad's old Norelco that i take when i travel for work.

The Panasonic is the best weight to power ratio, i think, and it's super high speed seems to work best for getting a close shave. Another thing i like is that the design is very responsive, sound-wise. I can tell when the shave is close by the sound it makes when i go over the skin.

The one i've got now is only a few years old, so i'll have it for a while.

3. I use a norelco
I am pretty sure it is not tearing my skin, but I am thinking it is getting dull or old. I went shopping for a new one, and they cost more than I expected.

4. I have no idea but thanks for the question I need an answer too
I have a progressive, degenerative nerve disorder. I've been shaving with safety razors (but who ever called them safety razors must have been kidding). We have some of the same symptoms.

Khash.

(Used to shave with a straight razor/cut throat razor 'til I realized that "cut throat" wasn't a euphemism if your hands shake and jerk. So I switched to regular safety razors - won't kill ya but you sure end up cut up.)

7. Try a pre-shave lotion for for the transition period..
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 01:44 PM by BrotherBuzz
If you have been using a blade razor and are switching to electric, give your face 2-3 weeks to adjust to electric shaving. Also, don't fluctuate back and forth between blade shaving and electric shaving during that period if you can help it. Though your first few shaves may be less than perfect, many men report that once their face has gotten "used to" the electric shaver, it works very well for them.

You may want to prep with a pre-shave lotion designed for electric shavers (such as "Lectric shave"). Such products, often alcohol-based, dry up the oils and moisture on your skin and make the whiskers stand straight up.

During your trial and error process of finding the right shaver, keep in mind that many brands of electric shavers have money back guarantees. Be sure to check the guarantee for the shaver you purchase and plan accordingly.

on edit: Skinner, this is not to be considered medical advice as per the new DU rules. ;)
