Welcome to DU. I think a get together would be great. Weekends are easier on the work schedule and the commuter traffic when we're traveling from the desert!

Viva Fresh Cantina is a Mexican joint - very low-key. Food is ok - not super great, but the margaritas are excellent and I still haven't tried the carnitas (which I understand is their specialty). I wonder if the place you're talking about may be inside the Equestrian Center?? Anyone know?

I've gotta see what this Viva Cantina place is about. It's not too near the stables is it? Like, flies on the patio? Wait, though, it's winter, isn't it *looks around for snow, sighs* Anyway, whenever - I'm usually fairly available to gather. See what you started, Booberdawg?

Naw, it's not too close to the stables - people do tie up their horses out back though - which is kinda neat. I didn't notice any horsey smells though :)

20. In order to pick something central and find the best time
it might be an idea to do a survey so we know more about where people are coming from and which day/dates work best for people. I live just at the border of LA and Venture Counties in Oak Park. Fridays are OK, but Saturdays would probably be better, so my husband and I wouldn't be stuck with two cars.

32. I'm down
we should try to meet later in the evening, say 8-9 pm, so everyone can avoid traffic, especially those of us coming from the westside (Santa Monica in my case...)

34. Should we do it on Saturday instead?
If we meet earlier in the evening, say 6:00, then everyone could probably avoid traffic issues and the people coming from the desert, etc. wouldn't have to fight the nasty Friday evening traffic.

Now I know the holidays are upon us and this is the craziest time of the year to try and schedule something.....but I figured might as well go for it and whoever we miss this time around hopefully will be able to make the next one in January.

As far as the location, I'd like to just stick with Viva for this time. Then we only have one variable (the date) to bandy about. C'mon, you guys, let's organize like the repubs!! No zillion-message thread to get this done :)

Next time, we'll pick a place on the westside, I swear!

So, here's the new proposed date: Saturday, Dec. 6, 6:00 PM
(ok, c'mon, let me have it......)

40. It's right there at the Equestrian Center
I know, with their name, you'd think it was actually in Hollywood but it's right there near Griffith Park.

http://www.sunsetranchhollywood.com/nightride/index.html

>Signups begin each Friday at 5 P.M., and the ride begins at 6 P.M. The 90 minute ride takes you through Griffith Park to Burbank as the sun sets over L.A., to delicious Viva Fresh Mexican Restaurant.<

44. love the idea of getting together....
...on a (semi?) regular basis. That particular weekend, I'm doing something with my sons on the 5th -- Saturday the 6th is a possbility, but I'm not sure yet (involves sitters, negotiations with the ex, etc.)

But I'll follow the thread, and when a plan hits the "definite" phase, see what I can do...

And say, for future references: What about the occasional mid-week rendezvous, say a Tuesday or Wednesday night? I know, not quite the same Bacchanalia, but still...

47. Will keep that in mind
I think next time, it will definitely be on the west side. As for midweek vs. the weekend, I think I'll have to take a poll. The weekend is less hectic for a lot of people because the traffic isn't as bad (usually) but on the other hand, everybody is out on Friday and Saturday nights, making just about anyplace we go crazy busy and loud.

45. SATURDAY! SATURDAY!
MUCH better traffic wise.
I have to say no to the sunset Ranch ride though-
I refuse to give them business as they treat their horses
like CRAP.
However, if some of you do want to ride before the get together-
PM me and I will arrange it for us.
I need to know ASAP though, and also what your riding ability
is as far as reserving a horse for you.
I wouldn't want any DUers to get hurt.
A ride in the hills would be BEAUTIFUL at sunset, but
trust me, we don;t want to give Sunset Ranch any business.
They are EEEEVIL to their animals.
