Help!!!! If you ever took Anatomy & Physiology..
I need to figure out a good way to memorize muscles.

I have a test this week, got the info on Thursday of last week, so I'm a little panicked. I know a small handful of ones we're supposed to know. I just feel lost and completely overwhelmed.

Any tips on how to figure these guys out???

1. do you have to know the origins and insertions of the muscles
or just be able to pick them out on a diagram?

2. Start by memorizing the major muscles
then memorize the little ones by region, head to toe. Good thing is that the left half of the body is identical to the right.

4. that and a lot of the smaller muscles are named based on what they do
such as extensor digitorum longus...it extends the digits (in your foot).

3. Mnemonics are always the best.
Especially for the leg.

5. Also, names are bestowed on muscles based on how many there

are to perform a certain task, (biceps - 2, triceps - 3, quadraceps - 4, and so on), or by their size (maximus, medius, minimus, etc.). Location is a good way to remember the latissimus dorsi, as it is on the back, or dorsal, part of the body. Memory aids work well; you need a strong trapezius to be able to swing on a trapeze. That kind of thing.

I'm taking A&P right now in order to apply to P.A. school. We're working on the nerves of the CNS. Muscles are more fun. :(

On edit: misspelled the name of a muscle. :dunce:
