Khephra's kitty namesake; if only every homeless pet were so lucky!
About six months ago I fostered little Khephra, Isis and Osiris. Isis and Osiris were adopted together, but I had a tough time finding a home for sweet Khephra (who was named after DU's late Khephra, who also had a gentle spirit). At long last a 16 year old girl named Heather wrote to me through Petfinder. She wanted to adopt Isis, Kef's sister, but Isis had already been adopted. I sent her Kef's photos and it was love at first sight. She had been BEGGING her family for a kitty since age two, and they had finally agreed to let her have one (she has two other siblings who are also animal lovers). So, one afternoon she and her family drove all the way to Orlando from the space coast to meet Khephra; their first family pet. Heather cried when she saw him, and he just melted into her arms, knowing that she was his. She must have emailed me 45 times or more asking for pet advice. Her dad bought every single product for Khephra that I suggested. Kef became one spoiled kitty!

Last week they followed my last suggestion, which was to get Khephra a kitty pal of his own. Now he has another Isis in his life! She looks just like him-and his sister of the same name. Heather was nervous about the introduction, but I sent her Newsguyatl's "the introduction in progress" (his photo journal of Nikko and Jesse's intro: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=243&topic_id=6787&mesg_id=6787) and it helped to put her and ease. Now, as you can see, Khephra is perfectly content. I may have had to keep Kef longer than any other foster, but his wait was worth it. Our own Kef must be watching over for his namesake. :-)

I had him for several months, and he grew up a lot in that short time:

8. What a beautiful story- thank you for sharing it!
The kitties, Kephra and Isis are just gorgeous; what amazing eyes they both have! Thank you for fostering Kephra, Osiris, and Isis, and I'm sure many others too. I adopted my 2 cocker spaniels from Cocker Spaniel Rescue, and am forever indebted to their foster families who made the transition from prior rough circumstances into a loving home. Thank you for the work you do!

11. Thank you. It can be a tough job sometimes (I've lost two to

panleukapenia), but stories like Khephra's make it worth it! What rescues groups need more than anything are more foster homes .

Next week I have a new cat coming into my home that will be a true challenge! He's a savannah cat (half African serval, half Bengal), and his owner is giving him up because he chews everything in sight. Should be interesting....
