Chris Smither - incredible.
I saw Chris Smither last night. The club was packed and he was great. I had forgotten how intricate he is. Lots of closed chords on the inner four strings against open outer strings and blues sevenths mixed with major sevenths. Plus, good songs. He really gets a deep groove going between his finger picking and his miked foot board. He was playing a custom Collings 12 fret 00 with a cutaway. Very nice. A wonderful evening. I can't wait until he comes around again.

1. he is so good
I sang his tunes in the 70s (covering Bonnie Raitt's versions) not knowing whether he was male or female. Then I caught him a few times at McGonigle's Mucky Duck in Houston. Great tunes, great voice.

2. I try to catch him every time he comes around
Did he happen to do the John Hiatt song "Memphis in the Meantime"?

4. Neither "Memphis" nor "Lowdown."
Mostly new songs including a wonderful ode about his relationship with his father. I also remember "Love You Like a Man," "High Heeled Sneakers/ Big Boss Man," "Statesboro Blues/ Church Bells Ringin'," "Rock 'n' Roll Doctor," "Magnolia," "Lola," "Crocodile Man." :~~>
