These Tim McGraw Lyrics are way beyond sucking.... had to share.
"Back When"

(snip....)
Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu

I miss back when

I'm readin' Street Slang For Dummies
Cause they put pop in my country
I want more for my money
The way it was back then

THIS SONG SURE HAS SUBTEXT

5. It doesn't make the song any less insipid.
People on our side are perfectly capable of putting out crap.

4. Sounds like a ripoff of John Mellencamp's "Cherry Bomb"
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 10:23 AM by Deep13
Except that was a nostalgic look at youth, not a lot of bitching about slang language.

7. there is some great contemporary country out there...
this particular song may or may not be great...but it is hard to tell from just posting the lyrics...(post the lyrics to do wa diddy diddy and tell me it reflects the heart and soul of the song)his presentation of this song is entertaining...maybe not great but solid pop fare...i cut him some slack becouse he's a genuine guy and a real life country liberal...(moderate)...when i first heard this song...i rolled my eyes...

i recommend charlie robison for some well written and cutting edge country music...

8. McGraw isn't all bad.
He did a tune a few years ago with Willie Nelson, "I'll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again" that absolutely cracks me up.

10. No, that wasn't Tim

That was Toby Keith. The supposed dem that supports G Dub whole heartedly. Great song, but Toby could use a little help.

12. I kind of like Country
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 10:51 AM by Divameow77
it's not my fav but there are some fun songs in that Genre of music.
My husband HATES Country though so I'm pretty much limited to in the car.

I can't stand Toby Keith but "Stays in Mexico" is kind of a cute song, and the Dixie Chicks rock.

17. I like some country music -- Keith Urban, for example
"Better Life" would make a good Democratic campaign song.

And there is a current popular song called "best I ever had" -- I don't remember who sings it, that I really like.

Also, speaking of Tim McGraw, I kind of like "do you want fries with that?" :hide:

18. What the hell is Tim talking about? He wasn't around "back then"
I like Tim, I think he's a fairly decent guy from what I can tell. But for him to sing this kind of song is just plain silly.

It reminds me vaguely of another song from way back when, or a poem, when someone was lamenting that "gay" used to mean happy, et cetera, et cetera, blah blah blah.

Language changes. And Coke is called coke because its original ingredients included cocaine :)

19. Another "Oh for the good old days" number...
Back when black people knew where to sit and women spent their allowances looking good for their man that they always stood by. Back when commies were deported and anybody who said the USA wasn't the greatest country on earth was a commie. :eyes:
