That On-Star commercial makes me cry and get sick...
and shake and feel horrible! I hate it. Every time I hear it, I get a lump in my stomach and my eyes well up with tears and I have to pull myself together.

It's the one with the lady who says something like "My arm hurts and my face hurts and my leg hurts and my car is so smashed up and I'm so scared."

:scared:

It puts me right on the edge of a panic attack every time.

It's ridiculous. I've been in therapy for 2 years now. I mean it's been 2 YEARS!!

sigh.

Okay, I'm over it now.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting.

How long did it take you to get over it?

23. It's been a little over 3 years.
I have a real hard time as a passenger. Total freak out mode while someone else is at the wheel.

Car crash scenes in movies or on tv send me over the edge.

I became someone else for a while. Just starting to get back to the person I was before.

24. Well, I guess I have at least a year to go...
...although I know everyone is different and it just takes as long as it takes.

I'm so sorry it happened to you, too.

2. I can understand how it would upset you....
That was a hellish experience. Turn the television off when it comes on. One day, I think, it will be better for you.

6. I've actually never even seen it, just heard it.
I'm listening to a movie and playing scrabble on the computer in the other room.

I should listen to music instead.

Anyway, nice to see you.

:hi:

Thanks for posting.

He's so affectionate and outgoing. He loves to share. He loves to meet people on the train. He's the star wherever he goes.

they're selling other than frantic women.

9. On-Star...it's a button in your car you can press
and talk to someone who can call emergency services for you, and they can tell if there's been air-bag deployment and stuff like that.

I'm not being flip, I promise you. I truly do not understand how this system works.

5. I can't stand their cloying advertisements.
I especially dislike the way they trot out kids and make it seem as though parents who don't subscribe are bad parents, not concerned with their childrens' safety.

This is another reason to dislike their ads! How dare they make you have panic attacks!

10. I agree with the technology
But the selling of it? I only hear their ads on the radio when I'm driving, and it's tantamount to:

"What if some bad driver seriously fucked you up and you were unable to get help for yourself? Huh? HUH? That's what we thought. Buy this service that makes the call for you."

Creepy.

12. Especially considering
you can't buy the equipment aftermarket and subscribe. So, if you aren't in the market for a brand new car, or if the car you want doesn't already have it factory installed, you're out of luck. You don't love your kids enough if you can't buy a new GM or affiliated car :eyes:

7. Using fear as a marketing gimick.
It's one of the oldest techniques used to sell you some shit that you don't need. Snake oil.

The news is no better. "Tune in at 11:00 to find out why washrags could be killing your children!!!"

assholes.

22. Ahhhh Sweetie... It's been 20 years since my accident
and it still bugs me to hear stuff like that too. It's not as bad as it used to be but graphic reminders like that can jar memories I thought were buried.

Hang in there.. it will get better over time even though it seems like such a long road to get there

25. ((nini))
Thanks so much for your post. It is comforting to know that it's a normal reaction, and that I'm not alone.

I keep thinking it might help if I got involved in some kind of safe driving advocacy.

When I switch to a part-time schedule (which I'm doing next month to spend more time with my son) I thin I will really brainstorm on that.

Thanks again.

26. No you aren't alone. There was a period
of time when I was in 4 wrecks within 1 year. All of them potentially deadly. I lucked up in every single one. And then my brother died in a car wreck. I feel most anxious in a car especially with others driving. It is something you never really get over, but it does get easier. It has been at least 10 years ago for me and I still get anxiety. But it isn't as bad as it used to be. There was a while when I wouldn't even go on a gravel road, since 2 of the wrecks I was in was on gravel. It is still hard for me but I am much more at ease than I used to be. BTW, I was never driving in any of those wrecks. I just realized how bad it sounds that I was in 4 wrecks in one year none of which were minor. But I would sound like the world's worst driver if I were driving all of those times.

I've been loathing those on-star commercials for many reasons. Someone should sue the hell out of them, just for being so goddamn insensitive.
