The Black & White Episodes Of The Andy Griffith Show Were Better...
... than the ones that were filmed in color. Why?

Do I enjoy them less *because* they are in color? Or is it something else? Could it be because Barney had left the show by then? Or because Opie had started to grow up?

Seems like the show lost some of its charm when it went from B/W to color.

You're right.
The Ernest T Bass episodes (with Darlin' godness) were the best! So was the baby birds episode.

1. The shows without Barney are not worth watching.

He was the perfect comic foil, and the relationship between him and "Anj" is what made the show.

2. Barney left the show.
That was a big reason. And his replacement, Jack Burns as Warren, just wasn't funny.

Also, Jim Nabors leaving the show and George Lindsey as Goober.

Plus, it was weird to see Opie growing up and dating.

3. I agree .
I think the b&w added somewhat to the quirkyness of the show . I know that does'nt make sense but the its just better in black and white .

4. it's just that the color episodes were later in the series
and almost all series run out of good material after a while.

You are correct, though.

5. Absolutely
The pickle episode is classic.

And the Halloween one with Count S. Van Telecki is hysterical.

I love that show. I even have the official Mayberry cookbook.
