It's a wonderful place for chilling out. GD doesn't bother me, I've been bruised and bloodied many a time there. It's all part of politics, and even though I've been absolutely furious at times, I get over it real quick. Then I come back here and post pictures of my shoe! :D

my real life. Sometimes if you post issue related stuff here in the lounge, it is ignored, and that's fine. But sometimes if I go to GD I get ignored too (I assume it's becuz they think we loungers have no political acumen or something!) or someone makes a rude comment instead of actually discussing things.

So it's moot at times. I think the silliness is good, but at times it does get a bit melodramatic....

I like coming in here after hitting the other forums to relax on politics, or gun control, or other issues...this room is a breather for me, a lounge, to help relax a little...for me at least, thats why i like coming here, to make my brain relax a little, cause reading post after post on gun control or other issue can rot the brain (and eyes) to a certain degree...:)

I'm sure a number of Lounge-hangers do frequent GD, LBN and the like, but sometimes posting a response to a thread in those forums can be redundant. A number of times, personally, I browse the topics and responses, because I am bound to agree (or disagree) anyway. There's no need for 132 "me too" responses in a GD thread.

And the rude, insensitive behavior of the clique members is not just exclusive and mean, (not to mention kind of sad) it can be cruel. If the environment weren't so hostile toward, you know, civility, kindness, and sanity, this could be a good place for DU posters to socialize and exchange non-political information related to our lives as progressives. I'm not going to violate rules or name any screen names, but by my count, there are six posters who basically "run" this forum. They post quite a lot, are probably responsible for half the forum's content, and are extremely rude to people they don't like. They only post in the threads of others in The Group. In fact, if you aren't part of this group--good luck getting many, if ANY response to the threads you start in here. They pollute the Lounge with juvenile and pointless "in" jokes--mostly just to make others feel excluded, as far as I can tell--and if you ask me, a lot of their threads are also silly, waste-of-space blather. I've even suspected that these folks might be trolls of a kind, filling the Lounge with b.s. and nonsense to try to eat up space on this site.

All I can tell you is--just because you haven't noticed a problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and isn't disruptive, negative and in desperate need of some solution. The trouble this faction causes around here is a recognized, well-established issue. If you haven't seen or been affected (or hurt) by it--you're lucky.

It's impossible to get along with everyone here or anywhere for that matter. This is a big community and there are bound to be personality conflicts - it's human nature.. I think most people realize this and deal with it by just avoiding those that bother them. Those that bother you won't care to make your experience better.. so you have to. You shouldn't let anyone else ruin your time here.

I've really been enjoying it lately. I'm about to enjoy it again, actually.

The issue isn't about me or a select few other folks having a "personality conflict" with one or two jackasses who don't understand social etiquette or the online forms of it as delineated in the forum posting guidelines. The issue is that a group of folks who like to hurt, insult, and exclude the rest of this forum and their website monopolizing space in the Lounge while being offensive.

But my sticking these mean, hurtful, childishly rude folks on Ignore won't stop the massive pile of crap they're spewing in this area, or the hassle it must create for the mods to try to get them to behave like civilized human beings. These aren't posters putting up the occasional rude or mean post, it's an everyday, all-day-long thing. My Ignoring them, while great for me and the others who put them on Ignore, doesn't change the fact that they've essentially appropriated the DU Lounge as their own, filled it with crap, and made it virtually unusable for anyone who isn't one of their "special" friends. (It also doesn't prevent them from being snotty and hurtful to the newbies who don't know anything about their gangster-style rule of the Lounge.) I don't know why all these jerks just don't go start a blog, utilizing bandwidth they have to pay for, if the only users they enjoy interacting with are each other. In fact, at this point, I hope the Admins do ditch this forum, forcing these idiots to go someplace else and feed off of their collective neuroses at another location.

but I don't think it's malicious. It just takes time to make friends and people tend to stick with the friends they've already made.

Our basic problem, I think, is we are very cliquish and some people get ignored. When they shouldn't be.
