I didn't know I could do this with iTunes
Create a playlist, then drag songs from the iTunes store to the playlist. It doesn't purchase the song, but it puts it in there as a link where you can buy it from there anytime later. Why is this good? Because I look for songs all the time but don't end up buying them, then I forget about them, then I wonder "what was that song I looked up last week?"

1. yes, but they won't upload to your iPod
so you won't have to listen to snippets.

2. That's OK
I'm not concerned about xfering them to my iPod, but I'm glad there's a way for me to kinda make a "wish list" of songs I want, but maybe can't buy right away.

4. Not exactly
You can't drag from the iPod back into the iTunes library, but if your iPod is disc enabled, you can browse to the 'disc' and do a search for the song then copy it back into iTunes that way.

5. yes, but it violates your term of service agreement.
there is software out there (go find it on google, if you wish) that will break iTunes' prohibiton on downloading from the iPod. It will make the song folder on your iPod viewable, from which you can copy the songs to your hard drive and import them into iTunes. Note that any song purchased from iTunes will not be playablw without the owner's password.

6. I've done it before, w/o special software
If you're using Winders, first open up your iPod like you would any other drive.

Go into the "Tools" menu, and select "Folder Options...". In the "Folder Options" dialogue box, click the "View" tab. Under "Hidden Files and Folders", select the "show hidden files and folders" radio button.

You should now see a "hidden" folder called "iPod Control" on your iPod. Open this folder, and then open the "Music" subfolder. You should see a few other hidden directories in there called "F00", "F01", "F02", etc.

Go into each one of the "F" directories, and select all the files. Copy these files to a location on your hard drive (doesn't matter where, really).

Once you've copied these files, go into iTunes and select "Add Folder to Library" from the "File" menu. Browse to the folder you created above, and iTunes will import the files you copied from the iPod.

I did this once to copy files from my desktop machine to my laptop, and it worked fine. All the files I copied were MP3s burned from CDs, so your mileage may vary if you are copying songs purchased from iTunes.
