10. "Why do I live?" Because I don't like to think about the alternative AND
also because my Daddy put his thingee into my Mommy and I won the race!

3. I don't know what else we would be.
But I would like to know why we are here, with these bodies, brains, and emotions, all of the time wondering from where it all came and why.

11. The great unknowable and the riddle of the Universe --
Who are we?

Why are we here?

Where are we going?

What happens after THIS?

Everyone speculates, but nobody really knows.

4. Because knowing you're immortal gets boring after a while
You have to make it interesting by forgetting that you can't die. Then, after the shark rips out your guts, or the truck doesn't stop, or your chute doesn't open, or the cancer eats you slowly, you go - "Duh! Of course I didn't die! I've always been here! And I always will be."

6. Here, there and everywhere
Albert Einstein: "A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

12. I live
Because two teenagers got together while one's parents were away on a holiday trip, and nine months later there I was. Since then no illness, criminal act or accident has killed me, nor have I chosen to take my own life yet.

13. If there is no God, then our lives are pointless.
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 12:15 AM by Fox Mulder
We live. We die. We don't continue "living" in some kind of afterlife. We waste our lives working like ants on an ant farm. Sure, you can say that we're touching the lives of our loved ones, but 300 years in the future, what does it matter? Unless we're really famous, we won't be remembered at all. We'll be forgotten. It'd be like we were never here. In the end, it doesn't even matter.

The Cigarette Smoking Man worded it best on an episode of The X-Files:

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So your stuck with this indefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while there's a Peanut Butter Cup or an English Toffee. But they're gone too fast and the taste is... fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth-shattering nuts. And if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you got left is an empty box... filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

14. Sex, to put it bluntly.
We live, we make new people, strengthen the population and die.

Hopefully we have some fun, maybe fall in love, try to change the world or at least our own little corner, but ultimately our job as humans is to leave the next crop of humans a better world than the one we were born into.

21. " I Love....."- Tom T. Hall
I love little baby ducks, old pick-up trucks, slow-moving trains, and rain...

I love little country streams, sleep without dreams, sunday school in may,And hay
And i love you too.....

I love leaves in the wind, pictures of my friends, birds in the world, and squirrels...

I love coffee in a cup, little fuzzy pups, bourbon in a glass, and grass and i love you too.....

I love honest open smiles, kisses from a child, tomatoes on the vine, and onions....

I love winners when they cry, losers when they try, music when it's good, and life
And i love you too....

into a useless puddle on the sidewalk, it's THAT one. I can't hear it and not break into loud, honking sobs. My brother has sung that to me over the phone across the continent.

Not me, specifically, but in general. That's it folks, reproduce and pass on genetic material to successive generations.

That's about as simple as I can boil it down, to.

40. Bill Hicks:
"The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey – don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride ..." And we kill those people. Ha ha, "Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love.

The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace."
