Last year November 1 was election eve. DU was awash with gleeful optimism. There were even threads asking everyone to calm down and not insist it was over. Then the early numbers the following afternoon. I think I was the only DUer who posted a thread prior to the election, warning about the innacuracy of early exit polls and insider releases of the early numbers. I posted it in the General Discussion 2004 forum in the wee hours of November 2. Plenty of DUers replied and agreed with me. Then within days everyone was insisting early exit polls were gospel.

Kerry ran an admirable campaign. His debate performances were extraordinary. I have and will criticize the ignorant handicapping during the primaries, isolating Kerry as somehow most electable via his background. You need charisma and likeability to oust an incumbent, not the proper resume. They can rip me for that assessment all they want. I posted it years ago, long before the Kerry situation, and will in the future. It's the same reason we need to nominate Hackett in Ohio, not Sherrod Brown.

I should have remembered, as dh took vacation the exact same week last year.

I was SO miserable that week--after election day. Shock I suppose. He tells me I was absolutely catatonic--couldn't get me to eat, sleep or speak.

The only thing I did the next day was take my kids to preschool and stare at the sky. No television was watched for the next few weeks with the exception of Kerry's speech.

10. I don't remember much--

about the days after. The night before, we went to a 'victory party'. I remember it didn't feel right. The numbers were coming in and the party was taking on a somber feeling. People were slowly trickling out, none looked happy.

We went home, watched the last numbers for the night and went to bed.

I remember my husband waking me and telling me about Kerry's speech. I started to cry. He says I didn't stop crying really for days. :(
