Tip one: I have it on good authority that if the fleas are still alive and active on the carcass it's still good eatin'. Tip two: Squirrels Should boiled with the head on (there's a lot of meat in the head/neck area) until the meat falls off the bone. There's not enough meat on a squirrel to effectively remove any other way. Okay, now your turn.

1. Soaking the carcass in brine can kill some of the bacteria
Still cook the hell out of it, but this will kill a lot of it, and it will keep it tender.

had a friend that got rabies from doing that. Ah the joy of growing up in boonief&ck Connecticut...that and getting chased by moose and missing school because there is a bear sleeping in the frontyard. edit: I was fully in support of pelting it and making slippers until I went veggie.

4. Don't throw away the paws!
If you pickle them, they make great snacks for the kids. Be sure to remove any claws, however, which can go to making a spiffy necklace!

9. The hummingbirds are too small. But their beaks make nice earrings!
The shrews I've had are very chewy. I must try Taverner's tip of soaking them in brine. They're good in tacos, btw. (But I prefer mole wraps.)

13. if you are storing the carcass in a non-refridgerated area for more
than twelve hours, do remeber to flip it every once in awhile, blood pooling can ruin pelts.
