Poll question: Your Opinion of Bonny Prince Chuck?
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 05:28 AM by MrScorpio

I actually like the guy. Sure, he's rich as all get out and really doesn't have to earn a living like the other 99.99999999999999999999% of people on this planet, but instead sitting around on a lazy duff waiting for his turn to rule, he actually does things to help his people.

He's an environmentalist, opposes both GM farming and the Iraq War.

Plus, he's a human with human foibles (No doubt about that).

He's a hard worker, smart, has a kind, caring heart and he has a pretty good sense of humour.

As far as aristocracy goes, Chuck's A-OK in my book.

1. His heart is in the right place
Usually.

He does seem to care about society and the planet even if sometimes he needs to get more advice about topics before talking to the press about them.

It's a shame that he never got to marry Camilla when they wanted to (long before Diana) since his life would have been a lot happier and public opinion of him wouldn't have been tarnished as much as it has been.

If he has any sense he'll skip the crown & let William take the throne whilst he retires to a Cornish farm.

2. On a personal level, he may be a nice guy, I don't know....
...on a political level, the time is past, for monarchs.

4. He can't have one single bit of influence on anything except gossip
He is to America as Bush is to Borneo, an old ugly white man who couldn't do a single thing to help their society or the world.

6. he's about as useful as my third nipple, but I heard he's a nice guy....
wait, I have a third nipple?

I always thought he and Di were good people with good hearts. Being scrutinized for every move can't be easy, after all he is a human being. Sure, he has enough cash to buy the universe and all, but good for him, he doesn't act like an ass about any of it. WTF do guys like the Bushes or Dick Cheney ever do for anybody? Prince Charles is out there working for causes that he believes in and I admire that. He seems ok to me, I don't really like him a lot one way or another, but I don't pay much attention either.

7. I am ambivalent
He is certainly not the worst that royalty has given the world, but I don't get excited about famous people.

8. I can't really respect him.
If he was weak enough to be brow-beaten into marrying Di because of family obligations, the least he could have done is to have been honorable enough to quit seeing his mistress.

I mean, yeah, he was in a sucky position, but that doesn't mean that you get to make it even suckier for someone else.

10. His heart might be in the right place
but his brain is on a different planet. Besides, he and his whole family are parasites and an embarrassment. If you lived in a country whose figureheads were costing you a fortune and who couldn't be voted out in four years you might think differently. The sooner they are gone the better. Like to see him hold down a job for the rest of his life - I mean, what can they do?

Inbred halfwits, the lot of them.

13. I have a friend who has had social time with the family
and says they are the not brightest bulbs on the tree. But I am pleased to see this guy who was born into wealth running an organic farming operation, and focusing on the environment and working when he really doesn't have to.

It is kind of funky that there is 'protocol' to be observed when in his presense though.

I'm glad they got out of his personal biz and 'let' him marry the woman he loves.

14. He's OK
I wonder what it must be like to live in a tabloid goldfish bowl and have to constantly attend public events and ceremonies that bore you silly -- when it isn't even a life you've chosen for yourself.

It may not follow protocol; but I hope he does, just the same.

16. I like him
He's a decent guy. I liked him a LOT more than that airhead he was married to...

Charles is a decent, intelligent man. He has an unfair reputation for being "eccentric". When he becomes King, he'll be a good one.

17. Demi-benevolent parasite
I don't know the man, so I can't speak to him as a person, and yes, I know publicly he has done what men like him do for charities (show up and hope that helps loosen the purse strings) willingly. Yet I can't help thinking that if he had been born into a family whose genetic makeup would have provided him with a chin, he would be doing more good for humanity than cutting ribbons and smiling for the camera. Then again, *my* taxes don't put food on his table.
