A DU Chat Room Would be So Cool

DU is amazing and has gotten me through four of the worst years of my life, but I sometimes think it would be a lot of fun to have a DU chat room, where we could communicate in real time. Has this idea ever been considered?

I hesitate to ever even suggest improvements for DU, since it is totally amazing as it is, but I thought I would just throw this out for discussion.

C'mon...which mods want to step up to this challenge? Moderate the DU Chat Room. Surely, nothing in violation will pop up.

Maybe there could be a series of chat rooms, with limits on how many could participate?

5. a DUer from yesteryear named Kleeb used to sort of

head up an AIM chat room and invite DUers to PM him to join in but it was mostly teens or a younger crowd yapping about how drunk they were wanting to get or where , the few times I visited it anyways. :shrug:

10. Good question! i still have his screennames on my AIM

and they show up as him being online but I never chat with him. but i have no idea why he doesnt post here anymore. I might ask him next time I load in my AIM. I don't always feel like chatting on there..

1. Just want to restate: DU is perfect as it is. The Mods are AMAZING. If it was not for DU I would be in a straight jacket and rubber room by now.

I'm really sorry, because I know the mods work about as hard as is humanly possible just keeping an eye on the message boards.

12. Hey, it's okay.

DUers making suggestions is how DU gets better. No biggie. I'm sure if they did have a chat room the admins would get extra mods for that instead of making the existing mods do more work.

I still like the idea. :D

... I agree that whilst, how shall I put it, tricky to moderate, it would otherwise be a great idea.

There are a wide number of virtual environments out there that could be used for such a room - one worth looking at (that some of you may already know) would be the 3-D environment www.activeworlds.com

Whilst it is a subscription service (for full functions), you can still visit as a "tourist" as much as you like.

Again - quite possibly not the ideal solution, but an idea tossed into the pot. (And no, I'm not in the employ of ActiveWorlds :))

I'd also be very interested to know what other environments people have come across (beyond the standard "flat" format of chat room) that could be used for DU.

... would be that a chat-room could pull the heart out of DU - with more time spent in there rather than posting in here.

Not sure if that would happen as a matter of course - but I've seen it before. Chat environments with supporting Forums that actually lie relatively dormant because most of the time is spent in the rooms.

We might also lose a lot of great ideas/posts/fun under such circumstances.

And if there's one thing I've noticed - it's that the Lounge is ALREADY virtually a chat room :rofl:
