Newspaper Columnists who HATE everything...post your nominees
Every town and city has them...columnists, reviewers, sportswriters, who seem to hate everything about what they cover!!!

My nominees:

Washington Post: Tom Shales - Unless his heroes David Letterman or Jerry Seinfeld are involved, he hates everything on TV.

Minneapolis Star and Tribune: Patrick Reusee - the guy NEVER has anything positive to say about any local area sports team. One day after the end of the World Series, he has written off the Twins for the forseeable future!!!

1. Christopher Kelly, Fort Worth STar Telegram. Movie reviewer
absolutely hates everything.

If he hates it, I will go see it and I will usually really like it, too.

If he likes something, I am highly suspicious.

God I miss Elvis Mitchell!! He used to be our movie guy. ..sigh...

2. He must be Pauline Kael's brother!
She was the movie critic for The New Yorker magazine, and I swear, I only every read ONE review of a movie she liked. Everything else she would just trash!

4. Hey, I remember reading him!
Is he still writing for the Star-Telegram? Sometimes his reviews would make me giggle. He's SO hateful!

He was too good for almost every movie he saw, that was his problem.

3. Can I jump to TV? Andy Rooney hates everything
That grumpy old fart has made a career of complaining about the state of affairs in general on national TV. Often he's right. Sometimes he's funny.

5. I don't read this paper anymore, but there's a guy who writes for
The Dallas Morning News who hates everything and everyone. Well, except bush.

But he's such a two-bit hack I'm not even going to name him. He doesn't even deserve the publicity of being named here. He's just crap. He doesn't even have a crappy formula like George Will (give baseball metaphor or condescending history lesson and tie it to why current pack of reich wingers are right--same shit every single time).

7. OK, this is an unoriginal suggestion, but...
...I tend to agree with Bartcop when he prefaces running a Maureen Dowd column with "She hates everyone." Because sometimes she truly seems to! Not that she isn't often spot-on and fun to read, but tends to be very negative. I've enjoyed the increased Shrub-bashing that she's engaged in in recent years, but used to regularly get annoyed at her when she was always attacking my man, Al Gore, back before the 2000 election and in its aftermath.

13. What about Sid Hartman - Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 04:20 PM by KitchenWitch
Unless he is sucking up to the UofMN or George Steinbrenner, he is the worlds biggest wet blanket.

14. Oh, and Sid Hartman has a local call in radio show
Just once I would like to call in and say, "Hi, Sid, you sanctimonious windbag. Have a great day." CLICK

They would never air that, though...I would do it if they would air it.

15. Michael Medved
big fuckin' baby

Why can't Seattle's foremost (*snort*) movie critic get any respect?
http://www.seattleweekly.com/features/0320/film-medved.php

Because he's a whingeing, whiny crybaby, and a conservative shithead to boot, that's why.

16. You took mine already.
Shales has such fun skewering his targets in reviews; I used to look forward SO much to reading him in the Post when I lived in DC. Rumor has it that Kathie Lee Gifford stopped having Christmas specials several years back because Shales' reviews of them were so relentlessly harsh every year. It was a beautiful thing.

17. And I'll add one. This little punk at the SF Chronicle....
Aidin Vaziri. Unlike Shales, whose reviews are merciless but usually right on the money, Vaziri is an obnoxious little punk who attacks for the sake of attack (in other words, he approaches everything with a closed, snide little mind). I'll be SO glad when the Chronicle dumps his self-absorbed, sarcastic little ass.
