Name ANYTHING worse than Captain & Tennille. NAME IT, damn you!

Muskrat, Muskrat, candle light Doing the town
and doing it right in the evening
It's pretty pleasing Muskrat Suzie, Muskrat Sam do the jitterbug
out in Muskrat Land And they shimmy...
Sam is so skinny And they whirl and they twirl and they tango
Singing and jinging a jango
Floating like the heavens above
Looks like Muskrat Love.
Nibbling on bacon, chewing on cheese Sam says to Suzie,
Honey, would you please be my Mrs?
Suzie says yes with her kisses
Now he's tickling her fancy,
rubbing her toes muzzle to muzzle now,
anything goes as they wriggle,
Sue starts to giggle

:scared:

1. That IS a hideous song.
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 09:21 AM by terrya
Somehow, their version was even worse than America's orginal version.

The Captain and Tennille's "Muskrat Love" is one of the most unlistenable songs ever recorded in the history of mankind. It's unspeakably vile.

39. they have worse
on my computer, they have covers of 'Come in from the rain', 'nobody does it better', 'unchained melody' and 'you are so beautiful' by Captain and Tenille. Those are all horribly done, to my ear. In fact, I shoud now say, they 'were' on my computer.
There are far worse songs out there than 'Muskrat Love'. With only a couple of exceptions, there is the entire oeuvre of Garth Brooks. There is Toby Keith's jingoistic standard. And others that I only know by sound, but get played at alot of dances where I work.

5. Richard Harris singing
Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh no!!

6. Well, you gotta admit that song was pretty unique...
Parts of the song are actually kind of touching, while others - well, what drugs did Harris take when writing this?

16. "Unique" doesn't quite capture it
I've always thought it was written as an attempt at a psychadelic song, by someone who had never been around psychadelia or taken drugs.

7. The McArthur Park - Richard Harris - Dave Thomas - SCTV story
One of SCTV's GREATEST all-time bits featured Dave Thomas's perfect impression of Harris doing "McCarthur Park" on the American Bandstand-styled show "Mel's Rock Pile" (featuring "Rockin' Mel Slirrup").

The joke was that all of the people in the audience, as well as Mel, were thrilled at the prospect of seeing Harris sing the song live, ESPECIALLY the falsetto part, which "gave them chills."

While "Harris" sang, a woman sat next to him in a chair, reading a book. When it came time for the falsetto part, she stood up and sang it while Harris, silent, waved his arms and looked to the heavens. The audience was so peeved that one of them threw a brick and hit him square in the chest, and he started screaming "I'm gonna SUE you Mel!"

Years later Dave Thomas ran into Harris and asked him if he'd ever seen the bit. Harris silently gave him the once-over and replied with a curt "NO." Thomas finished the story by saying "At that moment, I HAD NO DOUBT that he'd seen it."

:toast:

72. Dave Thomas is often one of the most overlooked SCTVer's, because
his persona is generally not so "over the top" as Andrea Martin, John Candy etc. But he had some great bits, especially playing Bob Hope, mentoring Rick Moranis' Woody Allen...

Toni Tennille sang backing vocals on Pink Floyd's 'The Wall.'

40. Nothing is as bad as Captain and Tennille - not even anal leprosy
although Keefe Brazelle came close. For those too young to remember, Keefe Brazelle had the worst singing voice in the history of entertainment and had the audacity to call himself "Mr. Show Business Himself". He did fill-in variety shows on television in the summertime in the 1960s when regular series were on hiatus. His singing voice was so bad, it couldn't even be acceptable as a comedic pardody of singing (worse than Mrs. Miller or William Shatner).

69. The Macarena
I really believe that this country went to shit after the macarena. Damn those exercises in conformity disguised as dance crazes. To this day, I have still never done the macarena. I even got fired for not doing it at a corporate training session.

86. Wrongo. Karen Carpenter had one of the best female voices EVER
Some of their stuff was meh, but alot of it was very good. AS I heard Richard Carpenter say once, "You can say you don't like what we sang, but you can't say that we were bad, because that's not true." Correct. I dislike the kind of music Annie Lennox sings, but she is an incredible vocalist, same for Karen Carpenter. She's consistently in the top 10-15 of female vocalists.

74. Starland Vocal Band.
Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right'
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of lovin' you is getting so exciting
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always though a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling
A little afternoon delight
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Please be waiting for me, baby, when I come around
We could make a lot of lovin' 'for the sun goes down

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of lovin' you is getting so exciting
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Afternoon delight!

88. Friggin' blister packs
First you have to fight to open them without strewing the contents all over the place, then you have to wait 137,000 years for them to decompose.

90. John Ashcroft!!
A while back Letterman was showing a clip of him singing a song I think was Let the Eagle soar.

That would be my vote.
