Poll question: Most feared "Christmas Classic"?
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 01:41 PM by CanuckAmok
You know they're going to start everywhere, starting November 1.

So let's get used to it. What one do you dread the most.

11. especially since they do not have near enough drums and bass guitar
to justify using the word 'rock'. Until AC/DC, metallica, or Guns 'n Roses do a remake of it - it is a tanjed 'swing' song and it should be called jingle bell swing.
I also hate 'Rockin' around the Christmas tree' for the same two reasons, and melakelekey maka or however you spell it, and my sister looooves that song.

53. So do I. I'm a sappy sentimentalist, and I love to hear that one.
I also love to hear Frank and Bing singing "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and so many other Christmas songs by Frank, Bing, Dean, and more.

I immerse myself in that stuff (but not in November!). What I DON'T like are Christmas songs - especially oldies and standards - performed by contemporary popsters.

52. well Chris D used to be played on the metal stations
with "Don't pay the ferryman" before he made it bigger with "Lady in Red" just like Michael Bolton started with "Everybody's Crazy" before he re-did Percy Sledge.
Father Christmas and The Twelve Pains of Christmas are my two favorites.

34. "A Spaceman Came Travelling" by Chris De Burgh, is the one
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 02:39 PM by Aristus
you may be thinking of. I think it's a terrific song. He has recorded and re-recorded it several times, but the best version is still the original, from his album "Spanish Train And Other Stories".

A spaceman came travelling
On his ship from afar
'Twas light-years of time
Since his mission did start
And over a village
He halted his craft
And it hung in the sky like a star
Just like a star

He followed a light and
Came down to a shed
Where a mother and child were
Lying there on a bed
A bright light of silver
Shone around his head
And he had the face of an angel
And they were afraid

Then the stranger spoke
He said: "Do not fear,
I come from a planet
A long way from here
And I bring a message
For mankind to hear"
And suddenly the sweetest music
Filled the air

And it went: La-la-la-la........

Peace and Goodwill to all men,
And love for the child

This lovely music went
Trembling through the ground
And many were wakened
On hearing that sound
And travellers on the road
The village they found
By the light of that ship in the sky
Which shone all around

And just before dawn,
At the paling of the sky
The stranger returned and said:
"Now I must fly
When two thousand years of
Your time has gone by
This song will begin once again
To a baby's cry...."

And it went: La-la-la-la......

Peae and Goodwill to all men,
And love for the child

Oh, the whole world is waiting...
Waiting to hear that sound again
There are thousands standing
On the edge of the world
And a star is moving somewhere
And the time is nearly here:
This song will begin once again
To a baby's cry........

28. AHHHHH!!!!
That song must DIE!
Worked at a Pizza Hut in the early 90's, and right before Thanksgiving, the manager would have the vending company put a few seasonal songs in the jukebox.
Guess which song was played the most often? (Usually I heard it 4 or 5 times in a 5 hour shift)

10. My mom owns an album she likes to break out to torture us:
Kathy Lee Gifford's Christmas album.

She had it on cassette when my brother and I were young, and would make us listen to it in the car every year.

Dad had this uncanny ability to block it out. So he would just laugh and laugh at my brother and I the whole time.

About seven years ago, she lost the tape.

But, a few Christmas' ago, dad had a special suprise for her as an early gift.

That same album, on CD.

:scared:

. . . I'm sorry, but I fucking HATE Happy Christmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon and Choke-oh Ono. GOD that song is fingernails on a blackboard grating, plus it's SUCH a damned downer.

From that list - Broooooooooce's "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town". Hate that one too.

You gotta love the two ex-Beatles and the one dumbfounding thing they share in common - having their tin-eared and musically untalented wives share their stage.

The ultimate worst is her performance with Dirty Mac on Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus. Worst. Vocals. Ever.

Mega-DU-dittoes on the Beatles' no-talent wives. I think Paul and Linda came pretty close to John and Yoko on creating the worst Christmas song ever. The McCartneys might even have surpassed them.

Why did Paul McCartney and John Lennon hate Christmas so much?

43. "Wailing Banshee" would be Joke-Oh.
Linda sounds more like an out-of-tune tenor. Sometimes live, they would turn Linda's crappy vocals up in the mix and Paul would have a hissy fit. Then there's the soundboard bootleg of her. OUCH.

I don't think ANY studio trickery could save Ho-Ko "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss, Kiss Me Love" Oh-No's shrill-a-thon.

I love how the singer pitches in for the ~$30 shoes and acts like he's just cured cancer or thrown himself on a live grenade or something. That's Freeper philanthropy for ya.
