DUers, what non-english languages do you speak?
Me, I'm what they'd call "conversational" in spanish, I don't know every word, but I can hold a good conversation.

What about you?

I want to know who speaks the most unique language!!!! Any Tagalog speakers out there?

1. Some Italian
At one time I was fairly fluent, though ultra deep subjects eluded me, but I'm very out of practice these days.

2. My dear SIU!
I majored in, and got a BA in French with a minor in Spanish....

But I got my degree in 1965...so my Spanish is non-existent, and my French is pretty rusty these days.....

But one time my husband and I were in Paris for a week on our own before our tour started, and after 3 days of exposure to the Parisians, I found that my French was pretty good!

And they were friendly, too.....most of them!

13. I studied Spanish for seven years - a long time ago!
I retained a fair amount, but I would not be able to hold up my end of the conversation. I can understand more than I can call upon to actually speak.

I can also understand a good deal of Italian and French.

It would be great to immerse myself one of the languages and become fluent.

24. LOL!
It would be - if I could read and write it well. I'm a long way from that, though I speak it well enough to pass as a native speaker - for about ten or 15 minutes of conversation, anyway!

:-)

21. I know a little French.
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 09:47 PM by Pithlet
I used to be able to speak it passingly, but it's been years and I've lost a lot of it. I can still read it and get the gist of what is being said, though. I'd probably do okay on a trip to a French speaking country and pick it back up quickly.

ETA a tiny little bit of German. I took it in middle school and again in high school.
