Student dies after goal post pulled down in Morris, Minn.

MORRIS, Minn. (AP) — A 20-year-old University of Minnesota-Morris student was killed Saturday when football fans pulled down a goal post at the end of the Cougars' 34-28 overtime homecoming win over Crown College.

Richard Thomas Rose, of Benton City, Wash., was a junior at Minnesota-Morris and a member of the men's basketball team, the school said.

This is really sad. I didn't know the guy personally, but I did have him in a couple of my classes. He seemed like a nice guy. This is hard for our campus because we only have 1,700 students. It's almost like we're a small family here.

He'll be missed. :(

2. I think the goal post hit him.
But I'm not sure.

I left the game before it happened.

5. Lord I feel bad for his mom
You spend twenty plus years raising a kid right, manage to get him all the way into college, and then some tragic accident takes him away. How do mothers ever recover?

6. I imagine his parents will sue. Not that money can replace him,

obviously.
And it's not just the "tragic accidents". Students keep on removing or trying to remove goal posts after games, even though everybody should realize the potential for danger.

7. I was shocked to hear that.
My sitter attends Morris.

It's a nice campus and such a close knit community.

How very sad.

8. Corey Stringer, a vikings player, snuffed it at age 32...
We all die. It's a matter of how, where, when, and sometimes by whom.
