Anyone here get treated with acupuncture?
Today I was trained by a nurse/certified acupuncturist to needle myself for migraines. I have a lot of headaches, and when I have them I am in no condition to go across town to an office for treatment.

I've had it done before so I know what it feels like, but I was surprised how easy it was to learn myself. I'm not giving up on Western Medicine, but I needed another weapon against these headaches.

4. Well, I just learned today and I haven't had a headache yet
but I am eager to try it so I will report my results when I do!

2. I've had acupuncture before
for some pain issues. Never done it to myself, but that's cool that your acupuncturist taught you to do it yourself for your headaches! And very smart, too, since as you say, you are in no condition to drive to get a treatment when you have a migraine. I had migraines for awhile (directly connected to a job I had that I hated -- my "cure" was getting a different job), so I kno who debilitating they can be.

3. I've had them for 23 years, and I have gone through
times (recently) where I wake up with a headache every single day. I am at the limits of what Western medicine can offer- imitrex isn't supposed to be used as often as I need it. There are combinations of daily meds, but they either don't work or they have major side effects, so I figured this was a good thing to try.

I am also trying changing jobs~ yesterday and today are the first headache free days I've had since 3 weeks ago...I left a job 2 weeks ago. I met my acupuncturist on the bus on the way to the peace rally!

5. Yikes, 23 years!
You poor thing, I feel so bad for you! I'm glad there are alternatives to Western medicine, not to say anything against Western, but other forms of medicine and treatment can also be valuable. My new personal physician is Chinese, and has been trained in both Eastern and Western medicine, which I really like.

Well, I hope you have more and more migraine-free days ahead of you.

6. Not for migranes, but I've had a lot of luck with acupuncture
and various kinds of repetitive stress injuries.

Good luck with your migraines! Also try massage and that sort of thing. A friend of mine who was pretty consistently takeing emitrex (sp?) for her migrains SWEARS that she was cured by a guy who does massage therapy / touch therapy. She didn't even GO to him for her migraines, she just wanted a massage.

7. Had it done to a severly sprained ankle in high school.
I don't really know if it did anything, but I did sprain my other ankle just as badly, and didn't have it done. The one that had acupunture done to it healed much quicker and is much less messed up now.

On another note, my father in law has accupunture done to his yellow lab every week for his arthritis and hip dysplasia. He says that he's a completely different dog now. Take it as you will.

8. I had it for chronic pain in my shoulder.
The one that really felt good was the one where there is a tiny electric pulse going through the needle.
