Question re NIC card for ethernet line that I need
I just ordered dsl, but realized my computer has no ethernet line connection. I was told to buy an NIC card. What is that? Cost? Will it give me create the slot to plug in the ethernet line? Is it hard to do yourself? Any advice appreciated.

1. I assume you are on Dialup right now. A NIC is a Network Interface Card.

I think they cost about $25 or so. Just go to a local computer shop and you can get one form there. Though it's easy to install, you might want to have them do it.

2. Network Interface Card (NIC)
Not expensive, I'm guessing around $20, It fits into one of the slots on the motherboard. Open the case, look for the the slots on the board, there should be three of them. Plug the card into one of them and the end of the card where the ethernet cable plugs in is available on the back of the computer when you put the case back on.
Re-start the machine and Windows plug-n-play will recognize that a new piece of hardware has been added. Go through the steps and it should install it with no problem if you are using Win XP. If Windows has problems use the manufacturers CD. You can also use a
USB ethernet. That will be a lot easier to deal with but you may pay more. The USB ethernet just plugs into one of the USB slots while the PC is on. Repeat the above procedure and you should be successful.
Good luck
