3. Standard replies.....
q:"Who is this?'....a:"Who did you wish to speak to?"

q:"What phone number is this?"...a:"Who do you wish to speak to?"

q: "Is this 867-5309?"...a:"Who do you wish to speak to?"

q:"Is you mother/father/parents home?"....a:"May I have your phone number and I will have them call you back?"

Unlisted phone number....always, ask the caller how they got your phone number.

5. That's better than what I got last week.
Phone rings, and I pick up:
"Hello?"
"Hey (garbled)?"
"Who?"
"Hey Joe!"
"There's no Joe living here. I think you have the wrong number."
"Fuck you, you fucking fuck!" Click.

I was sorely tempted to call them back (I only have a cell phone, so I have the number in my phone) but I decided against it.

7. Good gad.
All of the wrong numbers that call me are invariably very polite.

6. Yeah, but usually that's some random wrong number anyway.
It's annoying, but I don't know them, so I don't care about being rude to them (or them being rude to me, for that matter.)

What I *really* hate is when someone whom I only know marginally well calls me up and expects me to recognize their voice. WTF? The conversation goes like this:

Me: Hello
Them: Hello.
(awkward silence.)

Me: Um... who is this?
Them: Don't you know?

Um, NO, dickwad, if I did, I wouldn't have asked!!!!

9. I always identify myself (except to my parents and my husband).
If I say, "Dad, this is Cathy," he'll laugh a little and say, "Yeah, I know." And of course my husband knows my voice.

Anyone else, though - and that includes my own brother and sisters - I'll identify myself. I can't stand it when people make you play little guessing games about who is on the other end of the line.

8. That is incredibly rude.
If they're not sure they dialed the right number they could say, "Hello. This is ____, and I'm looking for ______. Have I reached the right number?"

10. This summer some ass who used the name Brad
gave out a fake number which happened to be my cel phone number. I got several calls from females asking for Brad. (One even called back the next day...like I'm gonna lie for 'Brad'). I'd love to meet Brad someday so I can thank him for giving out my number...what a dip!
