CASPER, Wyo. -- It's enough to make you throw up. But your dog might love it.
Raw food is the latest rage among some dog lovers.
The raw diet is called BARF, for biologically appropriate raw food.
Rob Mueller markets raw dog food through his BARFWorld.com Web site.
The food does not contain grain products, according to the site, because they are not appropriate for pets. The ingestion of grain and other starchy foods contribute to most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases, it says, adding that pets should be getting their carbohydrates from meats, fresh vegetables and fruit.
The theory behind the BARF diet comes from an Australian veterinarian who noted dogs evolved eating prey they hunted.
Mueller said sporting dogs seem to benefit particularly well from raw food.
The site says the regimen can also be called the evolutionary diet, natural diet or species appropriate diet.
It also claims that the diet can help animals with dry skin and allergy problems.
