Is Lennox Lewis the last great heavyweight?
I think he is because I don't even know who the heavyweight champion is anymore. He was dominant over every fighter he came across as a top tier heavyweight. He was tall, muscular, strong and fit. He had good looks, long braided hair and tons of charisma to spare. I think he'll probably be the last great heavyweight.

1. I would love to see some contenders
Boxing has taken a beating. Will it ever make a comeback with some good fighters?

2. Lewis though, beat all the guys who took him on
Even when that one guy fought beat him, Lewis dominated him on the rematch. Boxing needs to stop this "pay-per-view" crap and have some nationally televised fights in order for fighters to regain identity and boxing to regain identity again.

3. I agree
Even though I posted that Tyson thread, I think he was part of the destruction of boxing. It became a WWF show and took the sport down big time. Some good fights on a major channel would bring it back to a great sport in my opinion.

I know many people hate it, but it can be a decent sport if done right.

7. I watched Lennox Lewis come up through the ranks -
on USA Network Friday Night Fights back in the early 90's when he was known as "Laser Lennox Lewis" and I knew then that he was going to overthrow the hierarchy of fighters.

I still watch boxing on ESPN when I see it, and sometimes on Univision or one of the other spanish channels we have here in NH. When I see the next potential champ I'll post his name here.

4. Boxing is even disappearing from cable unless it's PPV
I think ESPN stopped broadcasting their Friday night fights. ShowBox on Showtime and HBO's boxing matches are getting fewer and fewer in number. We're not seeing the up and coming future stars. I don't know if it's because boxing has lost its hardcore audience or that no audience has been cultivated because of the lack of televised fights. Maybe both.

I agree with you about Lennox Lewis. A lot of people trashed him because of his style, which was basically to hit and keep from getting hit. It resulted in some less than dramatic fights, but that's what it's all about, isn't it? I think Lennox Lewis will be remembered one day as one of the great ones, although he doesn't seem to enjoy that degree of recognition at the moment.

5. Lewis's style was to fight on his terms not yours
His style was conservitive and seemed lethargic at times, but when he had his opponet in a vulnerable position that's when he went for the jugular. Many people looked stupid after underestimating Lennox Lewis.

6. like Razor Ruddock
best fight ever for Lewis -

Round 1 - WHAM WHAM WHAM - Down, WHAM WHAM WHAM - Down
Round 2 - WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM - out

Ruddock never even touched him.

9. he would open with a killer left jab
just enough to turn the head of his opponent, then he would nearly decapitate him with the overhand right.

Just amazing to watch.

11. He may have been the last good Hw......
But he by no means was a great Hw. He lacked true heart. He could show flashes of greatness, but he was inconsistent in his performance. That being said he is/was better than anything out there today.

12. When he first started boxing in the upper ranks he was
But when he got some expeirience he dominated. He dominated both Tyson and Holyfield.

13. He dominated a a broken down Tyson, and...
An over the hill Holyfield. No way to make a claim to glory. He was knocked out by a 1/2 ass like Rahman, and was given fits by Klitschko.

Good, yes. Great nope. I say this from the bottom of my heart as i am and always was a Lennox fan. I know greatness, and he did not have it. He lacked true heart in a fight.

Check his record. He never fought great fighters. Tyson and Holyfield were both over the hill with their best days long past them.
