Thoughts, prayers, good karma, and good wishes needed
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 08:15 PM by Maestro
My 8 year old nephew was hit in the head with a golf club and suffered some severe head injuries. He has been air-lifted to Cooke Medical in Ft. Worth, Texas. They live out in the country near the Oklahoma border. Anyhow, I am making phone calls now.

5. More news
My wife spoke to my sister-in-law. He was hit in the forehead with a golf club by a friend who was practice singing. The hit fractured his skull. He's going to Cooke Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth to be evaluated for possible surgery and to check for swelling. One good sign is he's conscious and except for headache doing relatively well and liking all the attention and the helo ride.

and blessings asking that this trauma be removed and that the result of this be that he comes away with as little damage as possible to learn the best life lessons for his future. That's the most and cleanest I can ask for.

13. Update II
Okay, it looks like the skull fracture can heal on its own without surgery. There is no swelling except for the point of impact which left an indention in the skull. Surgery is still possible to correct that but no surgery for swelling. He is answering questions just fine and says he wants to be a heliocopter pilot now. He is staying in ICU though for observations. I will update if I hear anything else.

37. Update III
No worse for the wear. He was sent home today with a headache, a cracked skull, stictches, but no swelling, damage to the brain, etc... He'll be fine. Thanks for all your concern.

Here is a picture of him while in flight to the hospital.

44. WhooooHOOOO! Glad to hear he's going to be OK!! Fabulous news.
And cool pic, too! Bet that will be a real keepsake for him...as long as things turned out well, he can look back on the experience with some good feelings!
And thank God for ERT personnel...every time I hear sirens or one of the medevac helis coming in at the local hospital, part of me is in pain with/for whomever is hurt, and the other part of me is so grateful for the folks who are so giving of their talents in the healing of others.
So glad for him, and you, and all who care about him!

Head injuries are very difficult, for all involved. Contact the closest Brain Injury Association for support and guidance. I had a close friend in high school whose brother was injured, and groups like this were a lifesaver for everyone.

Fleabert. I think though that we were all incredibly lucky. He suffered a skull fracture but so far as the doctors can tell no injury to the brain.
